AS THE FINEST AUCTION IN COMPANY HISTORY

Saying the upcoming auction will be the finest in Rock Island Auction Company history is a bold statement considering Rock Island Auction Company is the industry leader for yearly sales over the last two years. Owner Patrick Hogan states, “This is absolutely the finest collection of Colt firearms to come to auction in well over a decade. Additionally, the German, Japanese and U.S. military arms are equally as impressive.” The auction covers three days with a full day of preview on Friday before the Saturday, Sunday and Monday sales.

  • The crown jewel of the auction is a Colonel Colt presentation double cased set of Colt percussion revolvers to Civil War General and western map maker General R.B. Marcy.
  • There are other historically significant firearms and over 150 cased firearms.

Antique Arms
There are many high quality antique arms in this sale. In fact, this auction will boast more items classified as Antique or Curio/Relic than any other in Rock Island Auction Company History, including over 600 Colts. Additionally there are hundreds of other antique manufacturers represented in flintlock and percussion arms. Colts
The gathering of Colts in this sale is absolutely unbelievable. The number of high quality, rare and historic items is unmatched in Rock Island Auction Company’s history. This sale features over 700 Colts including over 600 classified as Antique or Curio/Relic. There are over 250 Colt SAA’s, Bisley’s, and 1877’s. There are also over 160 Colt percussion arms available as well. Headlining this amazing grouping of Colts are four Paterson revolvers (the first revolver ever manufactured by Sam Colt) which include: one Texas, three belt models, one fully cased. The auction also contains two very rare Walker model percussion revolvers. Historically significant items include an extremely rare, and factory engraved gold cylinder, Colt Frontier six shooter revolver presented to the captor of “Billy the Kid”.

Civil War/Indian War
Excellent Civil War items starting with a magnificent cased pair of Colt percussion revolvers presented to Civil War General Marcy. The auction also includes two rare Henry lever action rifles, one engraved with a patriotic motif and the other a U.S. contract martial model. There are also excellent Trapdoor rifles led by a fantastic engraved Springfield officer’s model, as well as the very rare positive Cam model.

U.S. Military
The U.S. military arms in this auction are some of the finest we have ever offered. Well over 250 U.S. military items including an M1 Garand Gas Trap, 1903 rifle with complete Pederson Device, mint Johnson’s, crisp 1911’s, and a complete collection of M2 rifles, and much more. One of many high quality, historical items available is General Curtis Lemay’s Colt model 1908 General Officer’s pistol, which is just one of several Lemay items offered.

German & Japanese Military
Over 500 items classified as European, Japanese and Third Reich military items. There are over 125 quality Lugers, Walthers and Mausers, plus over 35 Broomhandle pistols. There are many scarce pieces such as Obregon semi-automatic pistols, a Norwegian model 1914, a Luxembourg contract sniper, a Mauser “Humpback” pistol, a Japanese type 44 Cavalry, and prototypes. Also available are two extremely rare Mondragons, serial #1 and #3. The serial #3 Mondragon was a presentation piece along with an 1896 gold inlaid Cone Hammer Mauser to Profirio Diaz, former president of Mexico. Two other rare items include: an outstanding gold-plated, cased and engraved Walther model PP of Gestapo Chief Karl Ostermann, as well as J.P. Sauer & Sons engraved SS presentation model 38H pistol with capture papers. Other militaria items include German daggers such as a very rare Hitler Youth Leader dagger, Feldjagercorps dress bayonet, engineer’s police, SS daggers, and quality uniforms, helmets, swords and bayonets.

Sporting Arms
The sporting arms are superb in this sale. High condition custom rifles, superior quality shotguns as well as over one hundred and twenty-five assault type sporting rifles such as a Barrett sniper and FN/FAL. Many of the Woodsman’s, some other Colt’s and Winchester slide actions offered are the balance of the Bob Settani Collection, a collection that is synonymous with mint. There are rarities such as a mint smooth bore Winchester 06 as well as other mint 61’s and 1906’s. Exceptional shotguns such as an award winning L.C.
