DescriptionSingle nickel bead sight on a small silver finished panel at the front of the concave rib, with an inlaid and engraved gold and silver feather ahead of a gold-inlaid "WESTLEY RICHARDS" and "1" on the rib, with the engraved address "23 CONDUIT ST LONDON GUN MAKERS BY APPOINTMENT TO H.M. THE KING" and a 2 3/4 inch section of scroll engraving at the rear of the rib. A raised beaded gold border is present at the breech with a 1 3/8 inch wedge of scroll engraving on the sides and a proper assortment of Birmingham proofs on the underside along with the matching numbers. The embellishment of the frame is of particular note; while most inlaid shotguns will use a single metal and have the inlays be a centerpiece of the decoration surrounded by engraving, the frame shows a few light engraved accents and over half of the surface covered by finely detailed inlays in a mixture of gold and platinum. The beaded border of the breeches is seen again and loose feathers, flowers, and scenes of hummingbirds feeding while in flight cover the surface, with "WESTLEY RICHARDS/EJECTOR" in gold ahead of the Anson Deeley-style break lever and a gold "SAFE" position marking for the automatic safety. A more conventional inlaid scene of a gold and platinum hummingbird among engraved branches is present on the break lever and the triggerguard shows a gold and platinum hummingbird among engraved and inlaid foliage, with an engraved "1" on the rear, scroll engraving on the elongated rear tang and a golden serial number. A fine gold wash has been applied to many of the working components of the frame, including the bearing surfaces of the locking blocks, both triggers and the internal components of the drop locks. The stock is extra fine checkered walnut with an engraved "1" concealed on the mounting iron for the splinter forearm, which is also fitted with engraved and gold inlaid hardware, fleur-de-lis accents to the checkering, a fine straight wrist, a gold inscription panel initialed "D.F." on the underside and a checkered naked butt. Included with the set is a brown leather case initialed to match the guns on the lid, four gold washed 410 snap caps, a 2 piece cleaning rod and assorted cleaning equipment. Measurements: weight - 4 pounds 8.4 ounces, chokes - open, chambers - 3 inch, drop at comb - 1 3/8 inches, drop at heel - 2 1/8 inches, length of pull - 15 1/8 inches.

ConditionExtremely fine as professionally embellished showing over 98% of the fine blue finish with a few light handling marks overall. A fine brown patina is showing on the casehardened frame, with vivid color in the protected areas such as the water table. With the exception of a few tiny absences, chiefly on the underside, the inlay is fantastic, showing attractive color and sharp detail over all surfaces. The stock is excellent with a few light pressure dents, crisp checkering, and eye-catching grain. The case is very fine, showing some mild wear. Mechanically in good order.
