Having an in-house auctioneer team is huge advantage to consigning with Rock Island Auction Co. These are the people who interact with you through the entire consignment process. Through this interaction, they achieve a great familiarity with the pieces they are auctioning, they have the ability to convey the intricacies to the crowd, and they know when a particular piece holds a special place in your heart. When other auction houses bring in a “mercenary auctioneer,” they are involving someone with no vested interest in how well the item does and very little knowledge of the items at hand. Because our auctioneers are also our employees, they have a deeper understanding of the item, they can speak knowledgably to bidders about it, and ultimately work toward a higher sale price.
We Don’t Just “Have” Auctions. We Build Them.
Rock Island Auction Company strategically plans each and every auction. Each auction has a theme and revolves around the “critical mass theory.” This theory requires that each auction be grouped into complete genres. This becomes very easy to see when searching our Premiere Catalogs! You’ll notice entire sections dedicated to different categories of firearms: Colt, Winchester, U.S. & European military, Japanese, Smith & Wesson, Confederate Army, and so on. If you consign to us a very rare Civil War revolver, our job is to make sure that revolver is seen by Civil War collector enthusiasts. Instead of just placing it in the next auction alongside non-related pieces, we would advise you to place it in an auction that featured other Civil War items. By building these categories, we can more accurately focus our advertising efforts and create excitement in the groups that collect in those particular genres.
Large collections and especially high end pieces will many times have a promotional video about them to show our customers additional information that may not be seen in the catalog listing. Our YouTube Channel always features these videos, which are then also shared on our various social media accounts. We encourage you to watch some of the videos and see the passion and knowledge that our auctioneers exhibit for our consignors’ items.
This two minute video will give you an idea of our facilities during an auction. We create an atmosphere of fun and fellowship for the gun collectors that attend. Hear for yourself the comments made by customers who attended this auction.
