Description: This is an exceptionally rare, and very unique example of a Large Ring 20 Shot Broomhandle Mauser. These seldom encountered 20-shot pistols were produced in exceptionally small numbers in several small production runs, mostly commonly in the earlier Cone Hammer models. The large 20 shot pistols were an attempt by the Mauser factory to provide a high magazine capacity semi-automatic pistols to compete with the Spanish Astra large capacity pistols also produced during this time frame. This is an extremely rare pistol being that it is a Large Ring Hammer configuration as It is estimated than a less than a 100 total were produced in the earlier Cone Hammer configuration production run, with probably only a handful of this model ever produced. This example was produced at the end of the serial number block of the flatside models probably using one of the earlier frame forgings. The reason for the scarcity is due to the fact this the frame forgings for these model were all one piece which necessitated a nonstandard production run of forgings. The top of the barrel extension is marked "WAFFENFABRIK MAUSER OBERNDORF A/N" and the left side has the Crown over "U" proof and the right side has the small "Antlered" proof of the Mauser factory. The bottom of the barrel in front of the lower receiver early Oberndorf script letter proofs. This pistol has all the early features such as the long extractor on top of the breech bolt, the large ring hammer, the first style safety lever that you pull "down" to engage, the late style tangent rear graduated from 50-1000 meters, the late style one-lug firing pin and of course the original "20 shot" frame forging. The walnut grips have 23 grooves that are numbered on the back side with the full serial number of the pistol. It is complete with the original ring on the bottom of the frame. This pistol is complete with the original matching numbered "20 Shot" combination wooden shoulder stock/holster. The top of the attaching iron is numbered to the pistol and so is the door to the stock.
Condition: Excellent overall with 98% original blued finish showing only minor edge wear on the front end of the muzzle and the front edges of the frame rails. The smaller parts retain 95% of their heat blued finish and the trigger retains 90% of it's straw color. Mechanically excellent. The wooden stock has been nicely refinished and shows two minor age cracks on the underside, emanating from the door. The attaching iron is near mint as restored. The pistol has all matching numbered parts to include the attaching iron and stock.
