Description:This Model 1873 comes cased with three barrels. 21 inch part octagon barrel, 22 LR with lever, front globe spirit level sight, scope blocks and checkered walnut forearm, 26 inch part octagon 20 gauge shotgun barrel, serial number 8258, with lever and single bead sight, a 26 inch part octagon 32-20 barrel with lever, serial number 696, checkered forearm and fixed sights. The left side of the receiver is marked "EDWARD MAYNARD/PATENTEE/MAY 27, 1851/DEC 6, 1859" followed by "1873" and the right side "MANUFACTURED BY/MASS. ARMS CO/CHICOPEE FALLS". The upper tang is equipped with a mid range peep sight. The serial number and "1865" are marked on the lower tang. Mounted with a checkered straight grip walnut stock with a carbine buttplate. Complete in a leather covered hard takedown case with "J.S.M.R." on the lid and green lining. In the case are (2) Western 20 ga. Shotgun shells, (7) Western 32-20 cartridges, and (11) 22 LR cartridges.
Condition:Custom refurbished/refinished, the receiver which retains 90% blue finish with a few scratches, dings and minor pitting under the finish. A couple of the screws are somewhat marred. The shotgun barrel has a smooth plum patina with some streaks of thin original blue finish and strong original blue in protected areas. The 32-20 barrel retains 95% original blue finish with wear on the muzzle and some areas of thinning. The forearm is excellent with light handling marks and sharp checkering. The 21 inch barrel retains 90% original blue finish with areas thinning to a smooth plum and some scattered minor spotting. The forearm is good with a few moderate scratches in the right rear, some scattered minor dings, and crisp checkering. The stock is very good with some scattered minor dents and scratches, and crisp checkering. The case is about good. The straps are absent and the handle is separated, (in the case). The case has been relined and the interior modified to house the three barrels and there are screws coming from the outside to secure wooden blocks on the interior. Overall the exterior shows some minor scratches and scuffs.
