Class:Curio & Relic Handgun
Condition Rating:
Description:This is a scarce example of an early "42" coded, 1940 dated Luger pistol with the rare "Ku" Luftwaffe proofmarks. The meaning of "Ku" has long been a subject of speculation, with most experts concluding that these were produced/assembled by the Mauser factory under a late war Luftwaffe contract. Several noted authorities have also theorized that the "Ku" markings could have indicated either a Coastal Flying Corp designation of the Luftwaffe or that it meant "Kummerrer" indicating left over or mis-sized parts. In either case there were only approximately 5,000 total produced making these fairly scarce. The serial number on the barrel extension has the "Ku" prefix with a stylized "Eagle/LA" proof on the right side of the barrel extensions, as well as on the barrel, which also carries a partial "Eagle/135" proof. The left side of the frame is marked "P.08", with extractor and upper safety area marked "GELADEN" and "GESICHERT" respectively. Fitted with checkered walnut grips, with both having the full serial number on the backside. It has the standard military serialization with the full serial number on the frame and barrel extension with the last two digits on the various small parts. It is complete with one unmarked, folded blue magazine that is renumbered on the aluminum base with the pistol serial number (2322) with a partial Mauser "Eagle/63" Waffenamt proof.
Condition:Very fine with most of the restored blued finish overall with some restored markings and proofmarks. The grips are in very good condition overall with nice checkering on both sides showing honest wear across the tops of the checkering. The pistol has matching numbers except the grips and the firing pin which is unnumbered and the magazine which has been renumbered as noted above.
