Description:This is one of an estimated 800 manufactured from 1864 to 1869 and this example has period style engraving. The derringer features a well executed stylized scroll pattern on a punch dot background on the barrel, hammer, frame, and back strap. The side plate is engraved with a floral blossom and is stamped with the Starr's 1864 patent marking. The barrel which tips downward for loading has a manual extractor and the spur trigger frame is brass. It is fitted with checkered walnut grips numbered to the gun.
Condition:Very good as period engraved. The barrel and hammer have a mottled brown patina. The frame retains traces of original silver plating with the exposed brass having an attractive untouched aged patina. The engraving is crisp. The grips are very fine with some minor blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically fine.
