These rifle-muskets were famously used in the Fenian raids on Canada after the Civil War.

Manufactured c. 1865. Fitted with a shorter cadet length barrel and stock, two barrel bands, and a correct "1864" dated lock. The stock bears two crisp bordered script "HSH" and "ESA" (Erskine S. Allin) inspection cartouches stamped on the left stock flat, "W.B" behind the lower tang, and "US" marked buttplate tang.

H. Gibbs Lancaster Percussion American Long Rifle
This rifle is signed "H GIBBS/LANCASTER/PA" on the top of the barrel towards the breech for Henry Gibbs Jr. of Lancaster, Pennsylvania, who Wood and Whisker in "Arms Makers of Lancaster County" indicate worked for his father and became a freeman gunsmith in 1844 following his father's death. Advertisements from the period also indicate he was working for S. A. Danner in 1858 as a gunsmith and bell hanger. The lock appears to be marked "GOLCHER".

G.H. Ferriss Heavy Barrel Percussion Half-Stock Target Rifle
George H. Ferriss (1820-1885) was a gun maker in Utica, New York, in the mid to late 19th century and worked at times with Morgan James. He was an accomplished marksman in the antebellum era, and heavy target rifles like this one by various New York gunmakers were famously used by sharpshooters during the Civil War. The heavy octagonal barrel is turned round at the muzzle for use with a bullet starter and has a dovetailed globe front sight, no rear sight seat, and "G. H. FERRISS/UTICA./N.Y." marked on top. The same marking is on the back action lock. The rifle is also equipped with a threaded tang peep sight, plain single trigger, pewter forend cap, and brass mounts.
