Manufactured in 1891. Single bead sight on the barrel with a 2 7/8 inch chamber and choke measuring modified. Standard "WRACO" monogram on the left side of the casehardened receiver. Finely figured two-piece slab forend and pistol grip stock with checkered iron buttplate and 12 1/2 inch length of pull.

Colt Deluxe Model 1855 10 Gauge Percussion Revolving Shotgun

Colt only manufactured approximately 1,100 revolving shotguns split between 10 and 20 gauge between 1860 and 1863 and was part of a series of Model 1855 long guns manufactured by Colt that today are highly sought after. Examples of this limited production shotgun are scarce in any condition, thus making high condition examples, like this one, nearly impossible to find. These arms were also known as the Colt New Model Revolving Shotguns and are in basic design an enlarged version of the Colt Model 1855 Pocket revolvers. This 10 gauge shotgun is a deluxe example with a highly figured and checkered straight grip stock. The extremely rare 36 inch barrel has a brass bead front sight. The frame is stamped "COLT'S PATENT/+/Nov. 24th 1857" on the left side. "COL. COLT HARTFORD CT. U.S.A." is stamped in the top strap groove. One of the cylinder flutes is stamped "PATENTED SEPT. 10TH 1850." The trigger guard is the correct large scroll type. As stated, the buttstock is checkered (checkered wrists were standard on .75 caliber/10 gauge shotguns). The buttplate and trigger guard are numbered to the gun. The smooth forearm is fitted with a brass cap and nickel silver wedge escutcheons. A brass tipped cleaning rod is included.

U.S. Spencer Arms Co. Slide Action Shotgun

This Spencer firearm was the first successful American slide action repeating shotgun. This example is one of only 354 purchased by the U.S. Army Ordnance Department between 1886 and 1893. A notation in the 1885 Annual Report of the Chief of Ordnance revealed that these shotguns were used for guarding prisoners. The Spencer shotgun, however, was never formally adopted by the U.S. military. According to U.S. firearms expert and author Bruce Canfield, "A handful of martially marked specimens of these guns are extant today" (see "Complete Guide to United State Military Combat Shotguns," page 17). The stock wrist has a David F. Clark "DFC" inspector mark on the right sight and Capt. Frank Heath "FH" script letter cartouche on the left side. The top of the barrel has the one-line Spencer address/patent legend. The slide handle and buttplate are checkered hard rubber. George Moller's tiny "GDM" collection mark is by the toe. U.S. Springfield Model 1881 Forager Trapdoor Shotgun

Only an estimated 1,376 Trapdoor 20 gauge "forager" shotguns were manufactured in the early 1880s and serial numbered 1-1376. They were designed for 20 gauge brass shotgun shells and were used by hunters and scouts primarily at western outposts in the late 19th century. Some were even used into the very early 20th century, primarily in Alaska. It has standard markings including "1881" dated breech block, "1873" dated lock, the correct two-click tumbler, special extractor, and carbine buttplate and trigger guard. "GDM", George D. Ornate Engraved, Relief Chiseled, and Carved Brescian Snaphance Sporting Gun

Lot 360

Ornate Brescian Snaphance Sporting Gun

Manufactured c. late 17th century in northern Italy. The barrel has a bead front sight, decorative ribs, girdled transition point, "LAZARO LAZARINO COMINAZZO" (noting the Cominazzo family renown for their barrels) on top at the breech, and a dished rear sight on the tang. The lock has classical martial trophies, a Roman style bust on the cock screw, another classical figure seated on arms on the plate, raised relief design including a bestial mask at the tail, and an automatically opening pan cover. The side plate, trigger guard, buttplate, and accent plates throughout have chiseled scroll patterns inhabited by wyverns and masks in the iconic style of the Brescian gunmakers. The trigger is a pierced scroll and wyvern design. The stock has a low cheek rest and is carved with a raised relief design of a stag's head. The ramrod has an chiseled iron tip that coordinates with the rest of the gun.

Parisian Double Barrel Percussion Shotgun by Prelat

Francois Prelat was a leading gunmaker in Paris in the early to mid 19th century. He became gunmaker (arquebusier) to Charles Philippe, Comte d'Artois, the future King Charles X of France, during the Bourbon Restoration. The title "Monsieur" was used for Charles Philippe as the eldest brother of King Louis XVIII prior to him becoming Charles X in 1824. Prelat patented the first self-contained cartridge in association with Swiss gunsmith Jean Samuel Pauly in 1808-1812 and also took out the French patent for the percussion cap in 1818. This early percussion shotgun has Damascus barrels signed "Prelat a Paris" (left) and "Arqer de Monsieur" (right) inlaid in gold in ornate script with scroll and floral accents. The blade front sight is also accented by a gold arrow. "323" is marked on the bottom of the right barrel and on the face of the standing breech. The locks are signed "PRELAT ARQUER/DE MONSIEUR A PARIS" at the noses and have scroll engraving and game scenes at the tails. The hammers have wyverns, storm clouds, and lightning bolts. The standing breech has a bird in the dished section and scroll and floral designs on the balance. The ramrod entry pipe trigger guard, and buttplate are cast silver with classical figures, masks, and coordinating designs. The stock has panels of checkering on the forend and wrist, a very finely carved boar's head on the bottom of the wrist, and a wyvern design at the rear of the cheek piece.

French Percussion Double Barrel Shotgun

This mid 19th century French shotgun has Damascus barrels with a bead front sight, "Canon" (upper left) and "Tordu" (upper right) in ornate script in silver inlay, "Merley Fraisse" in scrip on the rib, "20" and a proof on the left barrel at the breech, "270" on the bottom of the rib, and "FILS LONDON" and "TORDU" on the underside at the breech. The locks feature scenes of a dog hunting birds along with scroll engraving. The left lock has "Louis" at the tail while the right has "a Marseille." The ramrod pipes, trigger guard, wrist escutcheon, and buttplate are silver with hallmarks located on the trigger guard finial and butt, and the ornate guard features a covey of birds. The half-length stock has a smooth forend, checkered wrist with relief carved scroll borders, and attractive grain and figure.

Dating to circa 1920 and with blued rifle choked barrels respectively signed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET, LONDON” and engraved “NITRO - PARADOX”, inlaid “RAJA OF MANKAPUR” and “Dt. GONDA. U.P.” in gold, and each breech end engraved with a band of stylized running foliage. Mankapur is a town in the Gonda district in Uttar Pradesh. Matted raised flat rib with bead front sight and rear sight of two folding notch leaf sights each with platinum inlaid center line and graduated to 100 yards. Casehardened rounded bar treble grip action with blued removable firing pin bushings, signed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” within a ribbon on each side, engraved “ROYAL HAMMERLESS EJECTOR” on the underside, and with blued toplever engraved “MODELE DE LUXE”, automatic blued safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”, long upper strap, blued triggers and blued trigger guard. Casehardened sidelocks each with gold inlaid cocking indicator, the left lock with blued retaining bolt engraved “PATENT”. With fine deep engraving throughout comprising a full coverage of bold foliate scrollwork inhabited by monsters and mythical creatures. The underside of the barrels and water table struck with London nitro proof marks. Finely figured walnut semi-pistolgrip stock including 5/8 inch orange rubber recoil pad, with carved drop points, and panels of multi-point checkering to the grip and forearm, the latter with blued Anson push button release. The underside of the butt with gold oval initial escutcheon engraved with a crest and Hindi script. In leather bound brass cornered takedown case with Holland & Holland trade label, glass oiler and brass vial. This fine gun was completed in 1908 and sold in America in 1911 featuring the Baker patent forearm ejector system. With blued barrels each finely engraved with sprays of foliate scrollwork at the breech end. Raised flat matted rib with large bead front sight, signed “W.W. GREENER. MAKER. 68. HAYMARKET. LONDON. WORKS ST. MARY’S SQUARE. BIRMINGHAM.”, and with rib extension. Casehardened treble grip bolstered action with serpentine fences, signed “W.W. GREENER” on each side on the bolster, and with casehardened action floor plate, Greener cross bolt and blued toplever. Blued side mounted Greener patent safety catch with gold inlaid “SAFE” and casehardened trigger guard engraved “GRADE F.H.T.45”. The whole engraved with fine scrollwork. The underside of the barrels and the water table with Birmingham nitro proof marks and Greener “Elephant” trademarks. Completed in circa 1886, with browned damascus steel barrels with concave rib fitted with a bead front sight, signed “W.W. GREENER. 68 HAYMARKET LONDON. WINNER AT THE LONDON GUN TRIALS, 1875, 1877, 1878 & 1879” and “PATENT TREBLE WEDGE FAST NO. 3084” at the rib extension. The underside of the barrels with original Birmingham “NOT FOR BALL” black powder proof marks and Birmingham nitro reproof marks for 3 ¼ inch chamber. Casehardened action engraved with double border lines throughout with flourishes of scrollwork and signed “W.W. Manufactured circa 1895-1900. Blued steel barrels with beaded blade and flip up disk front sights, fixed rear 50 meter sight on the raise quarter rib, single extractor, period London proofs, and "HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98 NEW BOND STREET LONDON." and "'PARADOX' FOSBERY'S PATENT." marked on the right and left barrels respectively. The casehardened receiver and sidelocks display fine border scroll engraving with game scenes on either lockplate. The left shows a lion in pursuit of a gazelle and the right shows a Bengal tiger. "HOLLAND & HOLLAND" is inlaid in gold on either lockplate and the left side of the receiver is marked with the load data "CHARGE 8 DRAMS BRASS CASE 2 7/8 INCHES". The gun features double triggers, bushed firing pins, and tang mounted manual safety. Beautifully figured , multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings including the rotary latch release and pistol grip stock with horn grip cap and blued scroll engraved toe and heel caps over the checkered butt. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both proved at (.803 inches) and both measured at .808 inches; rifled "Paradox" chokes; 14 7/16 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 12 lbs 8 oz.

Holland & Holland Royal Hammerless Double Barrel Paradox Gun

Blued steel barrels with beaded blade front and two folding leaf rear sights on the smooth concave rib and raised matted quarter rib respectively. The barrels show light engraving at either breech, "HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON." and "'PARADOX' FOSBERY PATENT." on the right and left respectively, London proofs and later 1999 dated reproofs, and chambers proved at 2 1/2 inches with single extractor. The sidelock action displays beautiful full coverage floral scroll engraving surrounding "HOLLAND & HOLLAND" banners on both lockplates and "THE ROYAL/HAMMERLESS" on the underside. The gun features double triggers and tang mounted automatic safety switch with gold "SAFE". Highly figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings including the Anson button release and straight grip stock with tear drop flats, a four letter monogram consisting of an A, K, I, and C in the silver inscription oval, and red rubber recoil pad. Attractive and Highly Desirable Engraved Holland & Holland Side by Side Royal Hammerless Ejector Side Lock Shotgun with Case and Accessories

Engraved Holland & Holland Side by Side Royal Hammerless Shotgun

This example was manufactured in 1907. There is masterfully executed tight floral scroll engraving on the lock plates, receiver, break lever, trigger guard/lower tang, forearm hardware and on the breech end of the rib. The lock plates are engraved in a banner "HOLLAND & HOLLAND". The underside of the receiver is engraved "ROYAL/HAMMERLESS/EJECTOR". The top of the right barrel is engraved "HOLLAND & HOLLAND." and the top of the left barrel is engraved "98. NEW BOND STREET, LONDON." The break lever is engraved "PATENT/EJECTOR". The bottom flats of the barrels are stamped with the "arm holding a sword/NP" proofs, the intertwined "Crown/GP" proofs and "Crown/V" proofs. The water table is stamped with a "Crown/V" and a "Crown/GP" proofmark on each side. The matching serial number (25180) is stamped on both sides of the water table, on the bottom of both barrels and on the inside of the forearm hardware. The serial number is also engraved on the lower tang. The barrels have a single brass bead sight, are choked .003/.011 and have 2 3/4 inch chambers with ejectors. The 7 pin lock plates are secured to the receiver with two screws having a niter blue finish. Some of the lock plate pins are niter blue and some are polished bright. There is a gold inlaid cocking indicator on each lock plate. Fitted with double triggers and an automatic tang mounted safety with "SAFE" inlaid in gold. Mounted on a beautifully figured, multi-point checkered English walnut splinter forearm and straight grip stock with teardrop flats, an "MLH" engraved brass initial oval and a leather covered recoil pad. Length of pull is 14 3/4 inches, drop at comb is 1 1/2 inches, drop at heel is 2 1/8 inches and there is an 1/8 inch of cast on. The bores measure .737 for both barrels. The wall thickness for the left is .065 and the wall thickness for the right is .055. The factory letter (copy) confirms the gauge, model, barrel length and materials, the chokes, the date the barrels were regulated (1-18-1907), that the stock had a length of "14 3/8 in.", that it was finished on 7-9-1907 and that it weighed 6 pounds and 10 ounces. Comes with the original leather covered hardcase embossed "MLH" on the lid with green felt interior and gold embossed black leather label on the inside of the lid, two nickel plated snap caps, a nickel plated oiler and a two piece hardwood cleaning rod. Harris Holland started with a wholesale tobacco business, but was a very good shot who frequently won pigeon shoots. His friends convinced him to start a gun business in the 1850s. Harris took his nephew Henry in as an apprentice in 1861 and made him a partner in 1867. Nine years later Harris retired and the name changed to Holland & Holland as we all know it. They have been synonymous with Best Guns ever since 1883 when they entered and won every category of "The Field" magazine trials.

Blued barrels signed "SOLE AGENT FOR SOUTH AFRICA:" and "R. MULLER-CAPE TOWN." in gold on the shotgun barrel, solid matte rib singed "IMMAN MEFFERT, SUHL," beaded blade front sight on ramp base, express rear sight, 2 3/4 inch chamber, full choke, and original German proofs, as well as London blackpowder reproofs dated 2012 for the shotgun barrel. Casehardened action with doll's head rib extension featuring various simple border engravings, German proofs, and set rifle trigger. Round knob pistol grip stock with multi-point checkering, forearm hardware and trigger guard engraved to match, and checkered horn buttplate.

The casehardened boxlock action features attractive scroll engraving with line borders, double triggers, and automatic tang mounted safety switch. Nicely figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings and rotary latch and pistol grip stock with cheekpiece, horn grip cap, and serrated horn buttplate. Beaded blade front and manual flip up rear notch sight marked for 150 yards with platinum sighting line, 2 3/4 inch chambers, ejector on the rifle barrel, standard Belgian proofs on the underside with "8x60" and "7.8" and "12-70" bore and chamber markings, and modified/full chokes. Engraved John Dickson & Son Round Body Action Ejector Shotgun

This fine and highly unusual Scottish gun features browned Damascus barrels which have been expertly sleeved with blued steel tubes before returning to browned Damascus at the muzzles and inlaid with gold bands at the joins, each tube is also engraved with a band of stylized foliage at the breech end. This gun is listed in “John Dickson & Son: The Round Action Gunmaker” by Donald Dallas in Appendix Two, p. 269 as having been sold on August 9, 1900. The browned Damascus concave rib has a bead sight and is signed “JOHN DICKSON & SON. 63. PRINCES STREET. EDINBURGH” and engraved with a flurry of scrollwork at the breech end and the number “2”. The underside of the barrels each struck with London proof marks and London nitro reproof marks. The Dickson patent trigger plate “round action” (incorporating British patents 9399 of July 22, 1887 and 10621 of August 2, 1887, use number 834) is profusely engraved with fine scrollwork and fine acanthus leaves to the fences, and is signed “JOHN DICKSON & SON / PATENT” on each side within a ribbon. The treble grip action has a blued toplever engraved with the number “2” and an automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”. Blued border and scroll engraved trigger guard. Well figured 14 13/16 inch straight hand stock including 3/4 inch black leather wrapped butt pad, with checkered panels to the grip and forearm, the latter with Anson push button release and an inlaid number “2”, and the underside of the butt inset with gold oval escutcheon engraved with the monogram “GW”. The Birmingham firm of G.E. Lewis & Sons established a fine reputation on both sides of the Atlantic for producing excellent wildfowling guns. The present shotgun, probably made in the mid-1920s, is one such example featuring long 32 inch barrels, long 3 inch chambers and a side-clipped action engraved with panel game scenes on each side featuring ducks taking flight in a river bank setting. With blacked fluid steel barrels with matted concave rib signed “G.E. LEWIS & SONS. 32 & 33 LOWER LOVEDAY STREET. BIRMINGHAM”, the barrel flats struck with Birmingham nitro proof marks and 1977 nitro reproof marks. Casehardened treble grip action with cross bolt, signed “G.E. LEWIS & SONS” on each side, and with blued toplever and automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”. Border and scroll engraving throughout in addition to the panel game scenes. The breech end of each tube and the sighting flat engraved with fine flowering foliage and scrollwork. The underside of the barrels with various markings, St. Etienne semi-smokeless proof marks and respectively signed “DIDIER DREVET” and “CANONNIER A ST. ETIENNE” on the flats. Scalloped and side-clipped treble grip action with manual safety with gold inlaid “SUR”, double casehardened triggers, the front trigger articulated. The maker’s records confirm that this rare gun, serial no. 013586, was sold in 1913 to a Horace E. Cook Esq. According to Geoffrey & Susan Boothroyd in their book “The British Over-And-Under Shotgun” (Chapter 16), H.A.A. Thorn, the then owner of Charles Lancaster, took out a patent (No. 12,057 of May 14, 1910) for "providing double-barrelled guns, of the kind having superposed barrels, with ejector mechanism". Expanding on the fact that the patent is for ejectors only, a letter published in "The Field" magazine on June 30, 1910 is mentioned that confirms the guns were purchased ‘in the white’ from Germany and were finished and fitted with ejectors by Lancaster in London. With blued barrels engraved “WHITWORTH STEEL” and “2 3/4 CASE” on the bolsters, each barrel struck with London nitro proof and reproof marks and Whitworth trademark. The over barrel with white bead sight and engraved with scrollwork at the breech end and on the doll’s head extension. Scalloped boxlock action with blued toplever, automatic safety with silver inlaid “SAFE”, signed “CHARLES LANCASTER” on each side and engraved with scrollwork. Blued trigger guard with border and scroll engraving. High visibility orange bead front and white bead mid sights on the matte vent rib barrels with 2 3/4 inch chambers, automatic ejectors, standard Belgian proofs, and modified/full chokes. The action is a fine polished blue with a Miller single trigger and fine gold inlaid line engraving surrounding semi-relief gold inlaid birds on the sides, fine punch dot texture on top of the receiver, and an eagle and shield design on the trigger guard. Blued steel barrels with single brass bead sight on the matted, solid rib, marked "SIR JOSEPH WHITWORTH FLUID COMPRESSED STEEL." and "MADE TO ORDER BY HUNTER ARMS Co. FULTON N.Y." on the right and left barrels respectively, and chambers measured 2 3/4 inches with automatic ejectors. The barrels show single bands of engraving at either muzzle with 1 1/2 inch wedges of floral scroll, a gold inlaid pigeon in an oval scene surrounded by floral work on the rear of the rib, and 2 1/2 inch wedges of scroll at the breeches with gold inlaid lightning bolt arrows. The casehardened, hammerless, sidelock action displays near full coverage floral scroll engraving surrounding five separate game scenes. The left lockplate shows a setter on point in relief, the top left and right sides each show a setter and spaniel, respectively each holding a bird in his mouth, the right lockplate shows a pointer in relief, and the triggerplate has four quail along a fence line. The triggerguard shows a hunter shooting a pair of quail over a trio of setters in a field flanked by a quail on either side of the scene. The gun features double triggers and an automatic tang mounted safety switch with gold inlaid "SAFE". Beautifully figured, fancy fleur-de-lis checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings, rotary latch release, and ebony tip inlay. The round knob pistol grip stock is of the same exceptional quality with matching checkering and a serrated hard rubber buttplate. Per the chart on page 209 of William Brophy's "L. C. Smith Shotgun", this gun is one of only 17 A3 Grade shotguns ever completed, making this the rarest 12 gauge L. C. Smith produced. This shotgun was owned by philanthropist and the first executive vice president of the General Motors Corporation, John Lee Pratt. Pratt was an avid outdoorsman and a generous supporter of many causes, most of which was done anonymously. Included with the gun is a copy of the "The Double Gun Journal" from winter 1995 validating this information and showing beautiful photographs of this rare shotgun. Manufactured post 1934 in the Remington period on the desirable "000" small frame. Blued barrels with single steel bead sight on the matte concave rib which is marked "PARKER BROS. MAKERS. MERIDEN. CT. U.S.A. VULCAN STEEL" with 3 inch chambers with automatic ejectors, and standard markings on the flats. The casehardened boxlock action features a single selective trigger and tang mounted manual safety switch. Light zig-zag border engraving around the receiver on all sides. Highly figured, multi-point checkered beavertail forend with Deeley latch release and round knob pistol grip stock with blank inscription shield and steel buttplate over the checkered bare butt. The above configuration is confirmed on page 590 of "Parker Gun Identification and Serialization" by Price and Fjestad. According to page 258 of "The Parker Story" by Gunther, Mullins, Parker, Price, and Cote, this as one of only 463 produced in this combination of gauge, barrel length, and barrel steel with only 163 of total VH Grade production having a beavertail forend and 3% having a single trigger making this an exceedingly rare find. Blued, London steel barrels with dual white bead sights on the matted, solid rib, marked "L. C. SMITH Ideal GRADE" and "HUNTER ARMS CO. INC. M'F'R'S FULTON. N.Y., U.S.A." on the right and left respectively, standard markings on the flats, and chambers measured at 3 inches with ejectors. The casehardened action and sideplates bear the standard flowing floral engraving and zig-zag borders with "L. C. SMITH" on either sideplate, and standard water table markings. Single non-selective trigger and a tang mounted manual safety switch. Lightly figured, multi-point checkered walnut splinter forend with engraved fittings, ebony tip inlay, and rotary latch release. The pistol grip stock is nicely figured with matching checkering and hard rubber grip cap and buttplate. WHITWORTH STEEL.", 2 3/4 inch chambers with automatic ejectors, and 2 1/4 inch wedges of floral scroll engraving at either breech along with engraving on the doll's head extension. The casehardened boxlock action displays beautiful carving on the fences and extensive floral scroll engraving covering nearly the entire surface with floral bouquets tastefully spread throughout. The engraving extends to the triggerguard, barrel release, and upper and lower tangs. The gun features a single selective trigger and a tang mounted automatic safety switch. Highly figured, fancy checkered beavertail forend with engraved fittings including the Deeley latch release. The pistol grip stock is of equal quality with fancy engraving, blank initial gripcap, and engraved metal buttplate over the checkered bare butt. This gun is listed on page 435 of "Parker Gun Identification & Serialization" by Price and Fjestad, where the configuration is confirmed with the exception of the beavertail forend. Per the chart on page 353 of "The Parker Story" by Gunther, Mullins, Parker, Price, and Cote only 4 AAHE Grade guns were ever built with 28 inch barrels in 28 gauge making this a very rare gun.
