Desirable Relief Cast Silver Swan Head Cane by Henry Howell of London

Henry Howell & Co. was in operation c. 1832-1934 and was widely regarded as one of the world's most prestigious cane makers. The C-shaped grip of this example is ornately cast sterling silver in the form of a swan's head with glass eyes and has the engraved monogram "MS", a "J.H" maker's mark, and Birmingham hallmarks. There is a small silver badge on the shaft just below the grip marked "HOWELL/LONDON". The shaft appears to be bamboo and shows evidence of having been tipped. 33" OAL.

ConditionVery good, the silver showing an attractively aged patina, a minor chip absent from one of the glass eyes, some light wear on the shaft, and the ferrule absent from the shaft.
