Heer Visor Cap Tagged for a Panzer Unit Officer

Constructed primarily from gray wool, with a black wool band, rose colored wool waffenfarbe piping, silver wire chinstrap, stamped aluminum national emblem, cockade and wreath , leather sweatband, cream rayon lining and a celluloid sweat shield marked "C. Louis Weber/UNIFORM-FABRIK/HANNOVER". A small tag inside the sweatband is marked "Peters/2. Komp Pz.Abw-Abt. 19", with an additional ink stamped "2/Pz/Abw.19". Peters has not been identified, but was presumably the original wearer of the hat and an officer with 2nd Company, 19th Tank Destroyer (Panzer Abwehr) Battalion, a component of the 19th Panzer Division. Established in 1940, the 19th Panzer spent nearly the entire war on the Eastern Front, participating in combat near Moscow and Stalingrad, as well as participating in the suppression of the Warsaw Uprising before surrendering in Prague in 1945. Provenance: The Putnam Green/Sycamore Collection

ConditionVery good, with mild wear and handling marks overall. The sweatband shows appropriate staining and some disintegration of the forehead padding, and the diamond shows some stitching loss but is otherwise solid.
