Early Devine, Texas, Production Springfield Armory Inc. M1A Semi-Automatic Rifle, Serial Number "000776"

Manufactured c. 1972 by Springfield Armory Inc. in Devine, Texas, under the ownership of Elmer C. Balance, who was the first to produce a semi-automatic version of the U.S. M14 select-fire service rifle. These early production M1A rifles were largely built from surplus USGI components, as is the case with this early three-digit example. Features a winged blade front and adjustable peep rear sight assembly, flash hider with bayonet lug, "SA" marked and "8 67" dated barrel, receiver mounted shell deflector/stripper-clip adapter, "TRW ZC" bolt, "H&R" operating rod, and a "HR-N" trigger housing with a WWII era M1 Garand "5-SA" hammer and a "SA" safety. The bottom of the barrel is stamped with a one-line "DEVINE TEX" marking. Fitted with a smooth walnut handguard and a walnut stock, marked with a boxed "DoD eagle" acceptance stamp and circled serif "P" firing proof, with a M1 Garand pattern buttplate. Includes a nylon sling and three manuals. Magazine absent. Note: This item is restricted under various state-level assault weapons bans and cannot be sold or transferred to residents of CA, CT, DC, DE, HI, IL, MD, NJ, NY, or WA. Please check your local laws and regulations prior to bidding.

ConditionExcellent, retaining 90% plus original parkerized finish with some minor edge wear, minor cycling wear, some limited light spotting/pitting on the front sight, and some minor handling marks. The wood is very fine as sanded and re-oiled with some minor compression marks, glass bedding in the auto cut-out in the stock, and clear stamps. Mechanically excellent.
