Description:

This is an example of a late war "Last Ditch" Japanese Nambu type 14 pistol as manufactured at the Nagoya Arsenal. The pistol has the late large trigger guard, slab type grips with no serrations, late heavy one-piece knurled cocking knob and has been refinished in blue. The right side of the pistol has the Nagoya Arsenal symbol on the upper receiver followed by serial number and the lower frame has the Showa date of 20.7 (July 1945) It is complete with a leather clam shell holster that has several clear small Kanji markings on the inside of the clam shell, two magazines, one blue with pot metal base and matching, the other mismatched, plated with pot metal base, extra firing pin and nickel cleaning rod. The bolt is un-numbered and the grips are numbered to another gun. Only about 750 Type 14's were made in July, 1945.

Rating Definition:

Reblued, the metal surfaces have been polished smooth and 99% hot dip gunsmith blue finish remains. The grips are very good with a few minor scratches and handling marks. The markings are clear. Mechanically excellent. The holster is very good showing little use or wear, some very minor age cracking and tight stitching.

Catalog Page: 41
Class: Curio & Relic Handgun
Description:

These pistols were produced from 1894 to 1923 at various government arsenals and were similar in function to the break open S&W revolvers of the day. The right side of the frame has the four intertwined cannon ball symbol for the Koishikawa arsenal over the Kanji markings for Type 26 and the serial number. It has fixed sights and checkered grips and a lanyard loop on the bottom of the frame. Complete with a scarce original all leather T-26 clam shell version holster with the ammo pouch on the front and an original cleaning rod. The inside of the flap is stamped with Japanese characters.

Rating Definition:

Excellent as arsenal refurbished. The revolver retains 95% of the fading finish with wear limited to the muzzle and high edges. The grips are recut with virtually no marks and crisp checkering. The markings are highlighted in white and remain crisp and clear. The action is smooth. The holster is very good with some minor cracking and peeling on the muzzle end, otherwise minor signs of use and wear, and tight stitching.
