This is a fine example of an early Colt New Service Flattop target revolver. This specific pistol was made in 1900. These revolvers have the large flattop target frame with the long 7 1/2 inch barrel with the Colt high polish blue finish, with heat blued trigger, hammer top and sights. The top of the barrel has the two line, patent and address markings of "COLT'S PT. F.A. MFG. CO. HARTFORD CT. U.S.A. / PAT'D AUG 5 1884. JUNE 5 1900" and the left side of the barrel bears the designation "NEW SERVICE FOR 44 S & W CTG". The caliber "44" is marked on the underside of the barrel just ahead of the frame. The Colt New Service circular logo is located on the left side of the frame behind the cylinder catch. The right rear shoulder of the trigger guard is marked with a 6-pointed factory rework star (it is unclear what was done to the revolver, as the finish appears original). The blade front sight is adjustable for elevation and the target rear sight is adjustable for windage. The grip straps, hammer spur and trigger are finely checkered. The serial number is located on the inside of the frame and on the cylinder crane. It is fitted with checkered walnut grips.
