Description:

Presentation Third Reich Diplomatic sword that was manufactured by Carl Eickhorn of Solingen. This extremely rare sword features a 31 1/2-inch, Damascus finished, single fuller, blade. Both sides of the blade are decorated with acid-etched oak leaf motifs. An oval panel on the reverse of the blade is etched in gold with the presentation: "Dem General-Konsul Dr. Pfeifer/fur hervorragende Verdienste um das Vaterland". The obverse of the blade has an oval panel with the gold-etched National Eagle/Swastika insignia. The Carl Eickhorn trademark is etched in gold on the reverse ricasso. The silver-plated hilt has a stylized eagle head pommel with D-shaped guard. The two-piece grips are mother-of-pearl. The counterguard is a National Eagle/Swastika with out-swept wings. The scabbard has a black leather body with silver-plated throat and tip. The scabbard throat has an oak -leaf shaped frog-stud. Third Reich Diplomatic Official's swords are rare, a presentation sword like this example with Damascus blade and gold-etched presentation would be the centerpiece of any collection of Third Reich edged weapons.

Rating Definition:

Excellent. The blade retains nearly all of the Damascus finish with crisp, acid-etched oak leaf decorations. The slate gray center panels have all of the gold-etched presentations. The hilt is in excellent condition with lightly tarnished silver plating. The pearl grips are bright and totally excellent. The black leather scabbard is in excellent condition with all of the original finish. The silver throat and tip are slightly tarnished. There is on shallow dent in the back of the scabbard tip. This is an extraordinary example of a very rare, presentation, Diplomatic Official's Sword with gold-etched, Damascus, blade. We are very pleased to be able to offer this exceptionally rare sword at auction!
