Bore Condition: The bore is mostly bright with distinct rifling and scattered frosting.
Description:

This rifle appears on page 229 of "The Muzzle-Loading Cap Lock Rifle" by Roberts and is identified as made by John Shell (1790-1875) of Shellsville, Pennsylvania. Features a star pattern on the muzzle, brass blade and notch sights, "J SHELL" directly behind the rear sight, "SD" further back, unmarked lock, "tear drop" lock screw washer, double set triggers, brass furniture, and a smooth walnut stock. With an A. Maki Collection brass tag numbered "129". Ramrod is absent.

Rating Definition:

Good with dark brown patina, mild oxidation/pitting, aged patina on the brass, and mild wear. The stock is very good and has smooth finish and some minor surface scratches and pressure marks. Mechanically functions (set trigger first).
