Rare Winchester Model 1886 Saddle Ring Carbine Chambered for the Desirable 50-110 Express Cartridge

Rare Winchester Model 1886 Carbine manufactured in 1897. The carbine is chambered for the very desirable .50-110 Winchester Express cartridge and has a folding, three leaf, Winchester Express rear sight. The round barrel and full length magazine are secured by a carbine style upper barrel band located behind the front sight block and a lower barrel band on the forearm. A saddle ring is mounted on the left side of the receiver. The stock and forearm are straight grain walnut with a varnish finish. The stock is fitted with the distinctive carbine, buttplate. The top of the barrel is roll-stamped with the two line legend: "-MANUFACTURED BY THE-/-WINCHESTER REPEATING ARMS CO. NEW HAVEN CONN. U.S.A.-", between the lower barrel band and the rear sight. The caliber: "50 EX" is stamped on the top of the barrel between the rear sight and the receiver. "-MODEL 1886-" is roll-stamped on the upper receiver tang. The lower receiver tang is marked with the "1884" and "1885" patent dates in two lines behind the trigger and the serial number, "119157", between the tang screws.

ConditionGood. The carbine is completely original and shows moderate handling wear. The barrel and magazine have a gray-brown patina with scattered patches of discoloration. Traces of the original blue finish are present on the rear sight. The receiver, hammer and lever have a silver-gray patina. There is some scattered age spotting on the lever and the left side of the receiver. The bolt retains a significant amount of the original blue finish in protected areas. The buttplate has a dark patina with some light pitting on contact points. The barrel and receiver markings are sharp. The coarsely sanded butt stock and forearm have been refinished and are in very good condition. Wear is limited to some minor handling marks on the forearm. Model 1886 Carbines are scarce; carbines chambered for the very desirable Winchester .50-110 Express Cartridge are rare.
