This M2 rifle is an improved version of the Model 1922 M1 that features an altered firing mechanism with faster lock time, round knurled cocking knob added to the bolt and a flush fitting detachable magazine with improved feeding. Considered to be one of the most accurate and best made .22 caliber rifles manufactured prior to the close of WWII. These rifles were used primarily as training rifle throughout the war and during the post-war years. The top of the receiver is marked "U.S. / SPRINGFIELD / ARMORY / CAL. .22 M2", the left side of the barrel at the breech is marked "LONG RIFLE / CART'GE ONLY", and it is marked "SA / flaming ordnance bomb / 4-42". The bolt is marked "M2" at the rear and electro penciled to match and the top of the bolt handle is marked "M2". The rifle has the original Lyman 48 micrometer rear sight and ramped blade front sight. One piece pistol grip stock with finger grooves in the forearm with no visible cartouches or markings, with paint residue remaining on the right side of the buttstock, checkered steel buttplate and leather sling.
Very fine as Arsenal refurbished with 98% parkerized finish remaining. The barrel band is moderately pitted. The stock is excellent with some scattered minor scuffs, dings and scratches. Part of the forward receiver ring marking has been buffed light, otherwise the markings are clear. The sling is good. The action is excellent.
