First Model Winchester Hotchkiss Bolt Action Carbine

This model is also known as the Hotchkiss Magazine Gun or the Model 1883. This was the first bolt action made by Winchester and it was designed for sporting and military use. The carbine is a First Model with the safety and turn button magazine cut-off located on the right side of the stock above the trigger guard. The rifle had an all blue finish with a polished bolt. The left side of the receiver wall is marked with the three line address/patent dates with arrows pointing at the middle line. The serial number is marked on the top of the receiver wall on the left side. The front sight is a pinned fixed blade and the rear is an adjustable ski slope type graduated to 1,000 yards. Mounted with a one-piece straight grip stock with a saddle ring mounted on the left side, a "4" stamped on the right side of the buttstock and an iron carbine buttplate.

ConditionGood. The metal surfaces have a smooth mottled brown patina with scattered traces of original blue finish. The stock is fine with a few small gouges, dents and dings. The markings are crisp and clear. The action is fine.
