U.S. Harper's Ferry Model 1841 "Mississippi Rifle" Percussion Rifle Dated 1845

This Model 1841 is marked "HARPERS/FERRY/1845" vertically behind the hammer and "eagle/US" ahead of the hammer on the lock plate. The barrel tang has faint a "1845" date stamp and traces of the inspection/proofmarks. It is equipped with a brass blade front and notch rear sights and is fitted with a straight wrist walnut stock with brass furniture including a patch box and unmarked buttplate. Sling swivels are mounted to the front barrel band and the trigger guard. The stock is stamped with a three letter inspector mark on the left flat and an unclear stamp on the left side of the butt. Also, a stamp is present on left side of buttstock "G.T.Z.". There are also some small "WJ" and "TG" marks on many of the components. It includes a ramrod with brass tip.

ConditionGood as partially refinished (barrel). The barrel has an artificial plum brown color while the brass has an aged patina and the lock has a mottled gray patina with some pitting. The top of the buttplate has a series of strike marks and the interior of the patch box has a darker patina with pitting. The stock is good with a large chips just the lock plate/upper tang and a few small cracks along with various dings and scrapes throughout. Mechanically excellent.
