Predating the rise of the Nazi party, the knife of the State Forest Service (Staatsforstdienst) served as a badge of honor and rank, with white grips reserved for senior officials and Foresters. Most are found without overt Nazi symbols or markings, while this example has a prominent Party Eagle on the obverse side of the hilt. Measuring 16 1/4 inches overall, with an 11 3/4 inch blade bearing etched hunting scenes on each side, etched vine work on the spine, and Tiger markings on both sides of the ricasso. Gold colored alloy hilt with a bugling elk on the languet, a deer hoof rear quillion, original ivory grips and three gilt acorns with oak leaves on each panel. With a black leather sheath, fitted with a steel throat and top with gilt brass accents. With a silver and green ribbon portapee, with acorn.
