Manufactured in 1914, as part of the first serial number block assigned to the Springfield Armory; as the first known number is "72571" this would fall within the first 1,500 manufactured. Blade front and flat top rear sights with the three-line Colt patent block, "SPRINGFIELD ARMORY/U.S.A." and the flaming ordnance grenade proof on the left side of the slide and the Springfield American Eagle and "MODEL OF 1911.U.S.ARMY." in sans-serif letters on the right. The grenade proof is repeated by the magazine catch with "UNITED STATES PROPERTY" on the left side of the dust cover. It is fitted with a long smooth trigger, knurled wide hammer, checkered slide stop and thumb safety, short grip safety, smooth flat mainspring housing with lanyard staple, a pair of checkered grips with screw flats, a full blue pinned base magazine and a "S" marked barrel. With a cloth storage bag and a note from the consignor stating that the pistol and storage bag were procured from the estate of a former mayor of Littleton, Massachusetts, about 1962, and have been in his sole possession ever since.

Rating Definition:

Fine as professionally restored, showing 95% of the blue, with some bright takedown lines around the slide catch, light edge wear and some mild handling marks. The grips are very good, with some dings, smooth edge wear and a small amount of verdigris. Mechanically excellent.
