Both of these caps follow the standard SS Camo hat, dating back to 1941. German soldiers are known to have put together their own gear in the field. Cap #1 in particular comes with a signed note from author Mike Beaver, writer of "Camouflage Uniforms of the Waffen-SS", noting that it "appears to have both original stitching and material", with a "good and reasonable chance this cap is a scarce field-made original", and a signed note from Bob Johnson of Battlefield Bookstore stating that he procured the cap in 1972 at a Frankfurt flea market.
