This Model 1896 rifle remains in the original 1896 configuration. Many of these rifles were updated to later patterns, but this one retains the distinctive "continuous curve" rear sight, handguard that extends over the receiver ring, and the stock with slight inward curve at the toe. It has the standard markings including an "1896" dated cartouche. The jointed cleaning rod is in the stock, and it is fitted with a muzzle/front sight cover and a leather sling. An unclear name was marked to the left of the inspection cartouche.

Very fine with 85% plus original finish, some light oxidation, light pitting on the loading gate, and scattered minor marks and edge wear. The stock is fine and has some minor surface chips and dings, light scuffs, slight streaks below the bolt handle, crisp cartouche (possibly recut), and a darker oiled finish applied on the butt section. Mechanically excellent.
