Remington only manufactured an estimated 5,000 Keene magazine rifles between 1880 and 1883. Production was limited due to competition with the Winchester-Hotchkiss rifles, and very few of these rifles are found in excellent condition today due to their use on the frontier. This example features a blade front sight on the front magazine band, notch and folding ladder rear sight graduated out to 1,000 yards, the three-line address and patent marking on the bolt, "45/70," and the serial number "890" on the trapdoor, back of the buttplate, and back of the buttstock. The butt trap contains the original cleaning rod.
