Description:

Louis-François Devisme (active around 1833-1886) is well-known for creating a variety of innovative and often unusual firearms. These revolvers were among the earliest centerfire revolvers and are very robust. Known Devisme clientele include high level Confederate generals and politicians including Robert E. Lee and Jefferson Davis, French Emperor Napoleon III, Queen Victoria, King Luis I of Portugal, and other European nobility, and high end Devisme arms are part of some of the finest private and public collections in the world including in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the collection of King Farouk of Egypt. These early cartridge revolvers were manufactured from the very end of the 1850s to the 1870s. They have dovetailed round blade front sights, "Devisme a Paris" in script on top of the barrels, "crown/letter" and single letter European proofs on the frame, fluted cylinder, notch rear sight on the top of the recoil shield, checkered walnut grips, and a lanyard ring on the butt. Includes a hardwood case fitted for the pair of revolvers with "B" engraved escutcheon on the lid and Devisme marked green velvet lining.

Rating Definition:

Very good, showing mostly a bright polished grey patina with some scattered patches of light pitting throughout, some evidence of mild cleaning, and clear markings. The refinished grips are also very good with some scattered light dings and scratches and crisp recut checkering. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine with a minor crack in the lid, minor dings and scratches scattered throughout, and some light wear on the interior.
