American target rifles really came into their own in the mid 19th century and remained popular even after cartridge rifles became widely available. Many were taken to war by sharpshooters during the American Civil War. This mid-19th century target rifle has a false muzzle, 32 5/8 inch scope with "GA KENYON/MAKER" on the brass fitting, a "REMINGTON/CAST STEEL" barrel, "JAMES HARPER" marked back action lock with scroll engraving, blued furniture, and walnut half-stock.

Very good with aging to an attractive plum brown tone along the barrel, silver-gray patina over light pitting visible on the lock, most of the dull refinished blue remaining on the furniture, 70% plus blue finish on the scope tube, clear optics, and refinished, otherwise fine, stock with some filler by the upper tang and minor marks and scratches. Mechanically fine.
