Description:

Despite being born from a British design, the U.S. Model 1917 was the service rifle most used by infantrymen of the American Expeditionary Force throughout World War I, and continued to see use up through World War II, making original unaltered examples a rarity. The barrel is marked "W/flaming bomb/11-18" with winged fixed blade front and elevation adjustable ladder peep rear sights, standard receiver markings, and "circled star" and "flaming bomb" proofs on the left receiver wall. With correct "flaming bomb" and "W" stamped, "NS" marked nickel steel bolt. Fitted with "eagle head/500" and "W" stamped pistol grip stock with flat steel trapdoor buttplate. Includes a "HOYT/1918/J.J.M." marked M1907 leather sling.

Rating Definition:

Very fine, retaining 85% plus original blue finish with moderate edge wear, scattered spotting, and finish loss on the bolt handle, magazine floor plate, and buttplate. The very fine reoiled stock shows minor scattered dings and crisp finger grasping grooves. Mechanically excellent. The sling is fine.
