Krag .22 caliber Gallery Practice rifles manufactured by Springfield
Armory c. 1906-1907. The rifle has the distinctive altered receiver
side, .22 caliber barrel, and chamber with an auxiliary extractor that is pulled out by the normal bolt extractor and snaps back when the bolt is fully opened. gallery practice rifles. Marked behind the lower tang with a small “21”. The rifle is fitted with a blade front and 1901 tangent rear sight graduated to 2,000 yards and marked 1, 2, 3, B and 4 on the left side of the base. The rifle is mounted with a full one piece straight grip stock and handguard, with bayonet lug and stacking swivel on the front band, sling swivels, and a flat steel buttplate with compartment containing oiler. “GDM” (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes a Rock Island Arsenal leather sling.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 70% plus of the original blue and oil-quenched casehardened finish with some light wear at the edges and a few patches of light spotting. The stock is also very fine with crisp grasping grooves, a crisp cartouche, some light handling marks, and scattered minor scratches. Mechanically excellent.
Provenance: The George Moller Collection.
