Early 19th Century American Lambert’s Patent Marked Percussion Cane Gun - NSN, 30 cal., 27 3/4 inch round bbl.. Cane rifle with bamboo shaft and antique ivory handle. The gun, concealed inside the knob handle, is marked “LAMBERT’S/PATENT” on the side of the trigger mechanism and follows a February 27, 1832 dated patent attributed to Roger N. Lambert of Upton, Massachusetts. To operate, pull the handle a half inch back and unscrew it from the shaft/ barrel, then load the end of the detached handle with powder, patch and ball and screw it back on to the end of the barrel. Next, pull the handle back to cock the mechanism, then push down on the handle so that it is at a 20 degree angle and hold it down, the hammer will rise and the trigger will automatically open. With the hammer in the up position a percussion cap can be placed and the trigger is able to be pulled for firing as long as the handle is held down at an angle. The brass ferrule at the muzzle flips open upon cocking. Metal rifled bore inside of the bamboo shaft.
CONDITION: Very good with some cracks in the shaft and handle, and scattered light pitting and dark patina visible on the metal surfaces of the gun. Mechanically functions fine, although slightly loose mechanism.

   Mid-19th Century Japanese Sword Bamboo Cane - NSN. Japanese sword with a 25 inch curved blade turned into a cane. Surrounded by carved wood to appear like bamboo with a metal ferrule on bottom and a pearl on top of the handle. The tang shows two mekugi-ana, one at the very end which was cut in half when the blade was shortened, 9 notches cut into the lower right side of the spine, and a 5-symbol signature on the left.
CONDITION: Very good with some light handling marks and a fine, sharp bright polish sword blade. The exterior has been repainted during period of usage.

Unique Disguised “Bamboo” Percussion Gun Cane - NSN, 65 cal., 33 inch round bbl., tan finish, metal grips. Unmarked percussion cane gun featuring a painted metal shaft/barrel meant to resemble bamboo. The wood ferrule functions as a removable three piece wood ramrod and cleaning rod. Loading is done from the bottom of the cane/muzzle end with powder, patch and ball. To cock, the round knob on top is pulled upwards, functioning as a spring-loaded percussion hammer. The handle on the top end of the cane is utilized as a grip and the second round knob below functions as a trigger,
able to be pulled back for firing.
CONDITION: Fine overall with some light scattered chips on the shaft, period appropriate wear, and dark patina on the metal surfaces. Mechanically fine. Provenance: The Larry Mattson Collection.

Underhammer Percussion Cane Gun - NSN, 50 cal., 28 5/8 inch round bbl., bright/black finish, walnut grips. Undisguised percussion underhammer cane gun. Wood grip, bright frame, and steel smoothbore barrel painted black. Small Birmingham proofs marked on the left breech end of the barrel. Removable brass tipped wood ferrule.
CONDITION: Good, retaining most of the period re-applied black paint over pitting on the barrel with some scattered light chips, and some scattered mild pitting on the frame. The refinished grip is very good with some light handling marks. Mechanically fine. Provenance: The Larry Mattson Collection.
