Outstanding Hoard’s Armory Freeman Army Model Percussion Revolver - Serial no. 613, 44 percussion
cal., 7 1/2 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. These rare Austin T. Freeman patent revolvers were manufactured by Hoard’s Armory in Watertown, New York, in the final years of the Civil War. The design looks like a cross between the Remington and Starr revolvers. These revolvers have an interesting method of securing and removing the cylinder: a small switch on the right side that when pressed forward allows the cylinder and pin to fall out to the right. Total production is only estimated at 2,000 revolvers. None are known to have been purchased by the Federal Government. However, some may have been purchased and issued by state governments, and others were no doubt purchased privately and carried by soldiers. It is equipped with a small half-moon front sight, frame groove rear sight, “FREEMAN’S PAT.DECR 9. 1862” on the right side of the sight groove and “HOARD’S ARMORY, WATERTOWN, N.Y” on the left side of the groove, and smooth grips. The matching serial number is stamped on the bottom of the barrel, loading lever, frame, rear face of the cylinder, and underside of the grips. The Freeman Army Model Revolver was a robustly designed and finely finished revolver. Surviving examples of this limited production Civil War revolver are scarce in any condition. CONDITION: Excellent. The revolver retains 90% plus bright original polished blue finish with the balance a smooth gray patina. The loading lever retains flashes of original case colors, and the hammer retains 70% original nitre blue. There is a very small factory surface flaw visible on the right side of the trigger guard that does not distract from the highly attractive appearance of this specimen. The grips are excellent showing some minor pressure dents and scratches. Mechanically excellent. A high condition example of a rare Civil War era sidearm. Estimate: 4,000 - 6,000

Remington New Model Army Percussion Revolver with Carved Grip -
Serial no. 30434, 44 cal., 8 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, carved grips. Manufactured 1864- 1875. Standard markings other than the lack of the “NEW MODEL” at the end of the barrel address. The cone front sight has been replaced during period of usage by a dovetailed round blade front sight. Single letter inspection marks throughout. Eagle and snake Mexican style relief carved left grip panel with three notches carved into the right grip, possibly indicating a number men’s lives cut short with this revolver. The butt is marked with three letters, “C F” and a smaller “J” of an unidentified meaning. Matching serial numbers on the barrel, cylinder, and grip frame. CONDITION: Fine, retaining 60% original blue finish with areas of thinning and light oxidation and a cylinder drag ine. The grips are very good with some age cracking and a repaired chip on the left panel away from the eagle motif.
