rear sight and tang peep sight. The top barrel flat is stamped with the two-line legend and “38-W.”“MARLIN SAFETY” is marked on top of the receiver. The nicely figured deluxe walnut
forearm and pistol grip stock features multi-point checkering. Sling eyelets are mounted to the underside of the forend cap and buttstock. Includes a leather sling. CONDITION: Very good. The barrel retains 40% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. The magazine tube retains original blue finish in the protected areas, otherwise
a mottled brown-gray patina. Silvered out original case colors remain in the protected areas of the receiver. The engraving is crisp. The buttplate has a smooth dark patina with light spotting. The refinished wood is very good with a divot on the comb, number of minor dings and scratches and mostly smooth varnished over forearm checkering. Mechanically excellent.

Factory Engraved Marlin Deluxe Model 1889 Lever Action Rifle with Special Order Extra Length Barrel - Serial no. 87613, 38 WCF cal., 28 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1893. The receiver is factory engraved with attractive light floral scrollwork, scroll and line border and game scene panels depicting running stags with minimal background work. The engraved motif is very similar to Marlin’s No. 1 pattern as illustrated in Brophy’s “Marlin Firearms” on page 531. Additional scrollwork decorates
 LOT 1267 Highly Attractive Marlin Model 1894 Lever Action Rifle - Serial no. 1064, 38-40 WCF cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured 1894 to 1935. The barrel two-line legend ends with the August 1893 patent date, and the upper tang has the late production “MODEL 94” marking along with a factory six-pointed star. “38-40” is stamped on top of the barrel at the breech. The top of the receiver is factory drilled and tapped for sight mounting. The receiver and lever are casehardened, and the remaining surfaces are blued. The forearm and straight grip stock are nicely figured walnut. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 95% plus original blue finish with thinning on the balance a some minor pitting on the buttplate. The receiver
and lever retain 90% plus original vivid case colors with slight fading on upper tang. 97% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The wood is also excellent showing

 LOT 1268 Colt Medium Frame Lightning Slide Action Rifle - Serial no. 10816, 38-40 WCF cal., 26 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1885. Combination Beech front sight, elevation adjustable rear sight and tang ladder style folding sight. Barrel stamped with the two-line legend ahead of the rear sight and “38 Cal” at the breech. Left side of receiver has a Rampant Colt. Straight grip stock mounted with a crescent buttplate. CONDITION: Fine, retaining 70% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. Slight traces of original nitre blue remain on the loading gate. 75% original case colors remain on the hammer. The buttplate has a brown-gray patina. The wood is very fine with some minor dings and scratches and crisp forearm checkering overall. Mechanically excellent.

Special Order Colt Lightning Medium Frame Slide Action Rifle in .32-20 W.C.F. with Factory Letter - Serial no. 24171, 32-20 WCF cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1887. The included factory letter lists this rifle with an octagon barrel in .32 CLMR, blue finish and “fancy pistol grip wood” stock when shipped on December 3, 1887 as a single unit shipment to Schoverling, Daly & Gales of New York City. Beaded blade front sight, rear sight filler, as well as a tang mounted folding rear peep sight. Standard later two-line Colt address and .32 caliber (scarce) marking on the barrel with Rampant Colt on the left side of the receiver. Mounted with a special order pistol grip stock. These rifles were a well liked alternative to the Winchester offerings of the day; however, even with some 186,000 having been produced, Colt decided to drop
the line in 1904 and return solely to handgun manufacturing.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% plus of the original blue finish and strong traces of the original case colors on the hammer with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey-brown patina, primarily on the magazine and edges. The slightly undersized refinished wood is very good with a few tack type holes in the buttstock, a hairline crack is visible on the lower right of the pistol grip, some scattered minor dings, and mostly crisp checkering on the forearm.
