Fine Engraved Holland & Holland .500/.465 (Nitro Express) “No.2 Model” Double Barrel Sidelock Rifle - Serial no. 19124, 500/465 Nitro cal., 26 inch bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. This classic British double rifle features blued chopperlump barrels respectively signed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND 98, NEW BOND STREET, LONDON” and “WINNERS OF ALL THE FIELD RIFLE TRIALS LONDON”, a band of stylized running foliage engraved at each breech
end , a single extractor, and a sunken concave rib with matted ramp mounted bead front sight, and partially matted quarter rib with dovetailed rear

     sight of one standing notch sight and two folding notch leaf sights each with platinum inlaid center line and graduated to 300 yards. The casehardened treble grip action has blued removable firing pin bushings, engraved
loading data on the underside, a blued toplever, an automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”, and long upper strap. The back action sidelocks have gold inlaid cocking indicators and are signed “HOLLAND
& HOLLAND”. Furniture comprises a casehardened trigger plate, blued trigger guard, casehardened pistol grip cap with hinged trap cover, and casehardened forearm iron. The whole including the quarter rib finely engraved with Holland & Holland style scrollwork. The underside of the barrels and water table struck with London nitro proof marks, and an import mark is under the forearm. The figured walnut pistol grip stock has a raised cheekpiece, a checkered grip and forearm, lever fastener on the forearm, a slender rubber butt pad, and a blued sling swivel on the bottom of the butt, and a corresponding sling swivel is fitted beneath the barrels. 15 1/4 inch length of pull. Weight 11 lbs. 1 oz. CONDITION: Excellent as expertly renovated with 98% plus blue and casehardened finish, very high quality later scroll engraving
that is crisp and sharp throughout, light patination on the muzzle, and minimal minor handling and storage marks. The replacement wood is near new and has sharp checkering and minimal handling marks. Mechanically excellent. This rifle does not appear to have been fired since its professional refinishing and restocking. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection. Estimate: 10,000 - 15,000
Fine Engraved Watson Bros. .375 (Nitro Express) Double
Barrel Boxlock Ejector Rifle with Case - Serial no. 13647,
375 Express cal., 26 inch solid rib bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock.
Manufactured in circa 1925, this rifle features blued barrels respectively signed
“WATSON BROs.” and “29. OLD BOND STREET. LONDON” towards the breech. Each barrel is engraved with
a band of beadwork at the breech end. The matted sunken concave rib has a ramp mounted bead front sight,
matted quarter rib with express sight of one standing notch sight and four folding leaves each with platinum inlaid center line and graduated to 500 yards, and a doll’s head extension. The casehardened action has removable firing pin bushings, a
blued toplever, matted upper surface, an automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”, a blued floorplate signed “WATSON
BROS.,” a casehardened trigger plate, and a blued trigger guard. The whole is finely engraved in low relief with foliate scrollwork. The underside of the barrels and water table are struck with Birmingham nitro proof marks. Import marks are on
the bottom of the rib under the forearm. The figured walnut pistol grip stock has panels of multipoint checkering to the grip and forearm, and the latter has an Anson push button release. It also has blued heel and toe plates, a dark horn pistol grip cap, and casehardened forearm iron. The underside of the butt has a blued sling eye, and the corresponding sling eye is fitted beneath the barrel. The case has leather borders, straps, and handle, a Watson Bros. trade label inside the lid, and green baize lining. 14 3/8 inch length of pull. Weight 9 lbs. 11 oz.
CONDITION: Fine. The barrels retain nearly all of the reblued finish and have softened signatures. Crisp, well-detailed engraving is on the action and furniture. The
floorplate, toplever, and trigger guard retain nearly all of the reblued finish. Traces of original casehardened finish are on the water table and trigger plate. The stock has been refinished and has some scattered age related storage and handling marks throughout and well-defined checkering. The heel and toe plates each retain nearly all of the reblued finish and have softened engraving. Mechanically excellent. The relined case has minor wear on the interior, some staining on the label, and fading and staining on the exterior.
