Rare Antique Engraved Holland & Holland Single Barrel Hammerless Sporting Rifle - Serial no. 19521, 375 cal., 28 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish,
walnut stock. Blued steel barrel with ramped blade front sight and three leaf rear sight (marked “100”, “200”, and “300”) in addition to the folding ladder rear sight graduated to 600 yards/meters, extractor, and “HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND ST LONDON.” and “WINNERS OF ALL THE ‘FIELD RIFLE TRIALS” on the right and left of the barrel respectively. The chambering “375 FL NE 2 1/2” is marked on the underside of the barrel ahead of the flat along with a 2013 dated Birmingham reproof. The casehardened boxlock action features beautiful floral scroll engraving, “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” marked on either side, bushed firing pin, and a tang mounted safety switch with gold inlaid “SAFE”. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered forend with horn tip, engraved fittings, and an underlever release and pistol grip stock with casehardened grip cap, cheekpiece, an initial oval with an armored arm holding a broken mace, and horn buttplate. Length of pull 13 5/16 inches. Weight 6 lbs 4 oz. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 90% plus original blue finish, 40% case colors with the balance a silver patina, and mild handling evidence. There is a chip on the right rear of the forend and a tiny crack on the right of the horn forend tip, otherwise the wood is very fine with a few small scratches and crisp checkering. Jeffery & Co. .255 (Jeffery Rook) Single Barrel Snap-Underlever Hammerless Rook Rifle with Scope and Case - Serial no. 4933, 255 Jeffery cal., 26 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Features a push-forward snap-underlever system and is chambered for the proprietary .255 rook rifle cartridge. The barrel is signed “W.J. JEFFERY & CO. 13. KING STREET ST. JAMES’S LONDON” and engraved “JEFFERY RIFLES HOLD THE HIGHEST RECORD/IN THE WORLD FOR ACCURACY OF SHOOTING” and has a partially matted top flat, a bead front sight, a Jeffery “No. 2” rear sight graduated to 150 yards and designed for h the Lyman aperture sight with deep U-shaped standing leaf and three folding leaves with platinum center lines, bases for the quick le scope, and an automatic ejector. The scope is signed “JOHN RIGBY & CO. 72. ST. JAMES’S ST. LONDON”. The engraved boxlock action is signed “W.J. JEFFERY & CO. LONDON” and has a manual safety with gold inlaid “SAFE” and a thumb catch on the right to allow operation with the Lyman sight. Birmingham nitro proof marks and import marked under the forearm. The checkered stock has a horn forearm cap, a grooved dark horn buttplate, and a blank silver oval initial escutcheon. With a maker’s leather case lined in burgundy baize with a Jeffery trade label and a pewter oiler. 14 1/2 inch length of pull. CONDITION: Very good. The barrel retains 95% older reblued finish with softened engraved details, some minor muzzle wear, and scattered shallow pitting mostly around the edges of the forearm. The action and furniture have a dull grey patina and softened engraving. The stock has well-defined checkering and numerous scattered age related storage and handling marks and bruises. Mechanically needs work (trigger not engaging). The pin for securing the scope to the barrel is absent. The case is generally in very good condition with some staining and mothing to the hinge area of the baize lining, replaced straps, and restored ends. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection. Engraved Holland & Holland .295 (Rook) Single Barrel Toplever Hammerless Rook Rifle with Extra 32 Bore Shotgun Barrel - Serial no. 21382, 295 Semi Smooth Bore cal., 26 inch octagon and 27 1/8 in part octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. Marketed as the “Royal”, this is the final
incarnation of the iconic Holland & Holland rook rifle. The rifled barrel is signed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND ST. LONDON” and “WINNERS OF
ALL THE ‘FIELD’ RIFLE TRIALS. 295 SEMI SMOOTH BORE” on the sides of the partially matted top flat and has a bead front sight, a three-leaf rear sight (one standing, two folding) graduated to 150 yards with platinum inlaid center lines, and a non-selective ejector. The rifle barrel and water table are struck with London single definitive proof marks. The Damascus shotgun barrel is serial
numbered 11091 and is engraved “HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET LONDON.” It has a bead front sight and Birmingham black powder proof marks. The action is signed “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” within a ribbon and has a removable firing pin bushing, and an automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE.” It has classic English border and scroll engraving. The underside of the barrels have
import marks. The figured semi-pistol grip stock has a scroll engraved casehardened pistol grip cap, a raised cheekpiece, checkered grip and forearm, dark horn forearm cap, and blank silver oval escutcheon on the under side of the butt. 14 1/2 inch length of pull. Shot barrel measurements: proved at 35 (.510 inches), measuring .512 inches.
CONDITION: Very good. The rook barrel retains 95% blued finish. The 32 bore barrel retain nearly all of its rebrowned finish and has had the Holland & Holland added fairly recently. The action retains 40% original faded casehardened finish. The toplever retains 80% blued finish, and the trigger guard and floorplate each have traces of original blued finish. The engraving is clear throughout. The wood is good with generally well-defined checkering, some bruising and minor chips within the checkered panels, scattered age related storage and handling marks and bruises, repaired crack in the forearm, and a repair on one side of the horn cap. Fine Engraved J. Harkom & Son .300 (Rook) Single Barrel Toplever Hammerless Rook Rifle -
Serial no. 46786, 300 Rook cal., 26 inch flat top round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. This classic rook rifle is nearly identical to the famous Holland & Holland “The Ross” rifle, and like “The Ross” was almost certainly made by Webley in Birmingham. The barrel is signed “J. HARKOM & SON” and “30. GEORGE ST. EDINBURGH” on each side of the full length sighting flat towards the breech and has a beaded front sight, three leaf rear sight (one standing, two folding) graduated to
150 yards with gold center line, and an automatic ejector. The rounded action has a safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”. It features classic English border and scroll engraving. It is marked
with the Birmingham single definitive proof mark. Import marked under the forearm. The checkered stock has a dark horn forearm cap and a grooved dark horn buttplate. Includes a leather muzzle cover. 14 3/4 inch length of pull.
CONDITION: Fine. The barrel retains 95% older reblued finish with some minor muzzle rub to finish, a patch of shallow pitting partially covered by the finish towards the muzzle (probably from long term
storage in a case or rack). The action and grip cap retain 75% of the fading original casehardened finish. The trigger guard has 20% original blued finish. The engraving is clear throughout. The stock has attractive figure patterns, well-defined checkering, a slight crack in the right stock head, and numerous scattered age related storage and handling marks and bruises.
