U.S. Springfield Armory M1C Semi-Automatic Sniper Rifle with M82 Scope and
Letters from Duff and McClain - Serial no. 3347018, 30-06 cal., 24 inch round bbl., parkerized finish, walnut stock. Included with this
M1C rifle are three documents. The first is from David H. McClain of the M1C Verification Service, which confirms the serial number of this rifle as being
for a WWII vintage M1C Garand Sniper Rifle. The other two are a Scott Duff letter and data sheet, both of which reference the McClain verification and describe the
rifle as “beautifully restored back to its World War II configuration”. The first semi-automatic sniper rifle adopted by the U.S., the M1C was an effective weapon but intricate in construction;
one would need to take a receiver off the line mid-production, ship it to Griffin & Howe of New York for scope rail installation, then return it to Springfield to be made into a complete rifle. While in
theory superseded by the more armorer-friendly M1D, the M1C served well as a primary sniper rifle in WWII, Korea and as late as Vietnam. Blade front and peep rear sights, “3 S A 4 45” barrel, as well as a Springfield bolt, trigger components, and uncut operating rod. The Duff data sheet notes muzzle wear at .75 and throat erosion at 1.75 (note: we do not have gauges on hand to verify these numbers). The Griffin & Howe pattern scope block is unmarked, secured with a 2-pin, 3-screw arrangement. The stock is smooth hardwood, with “65” in black marker on the handguard, “SA/NFR” and “crossed cannons” on the left, circled “P” on the wrist, leather sling, and a leather “K Line” cheekpiece (screws not installed or included). The M82 scope is installed in a Griffin & Howe marked ring base, with a rubber eyepiece and “43581” serial number. A “SA” marked M2 conical flash hider is also included.
CONDITION: Fine, with 85% of the thin arsenal refurbished parkerized finish, showing some scuffing on the barrel, a small amount of spotting on the receiver, and light handling marks overall. The wood is very good, with the handguard showing mild scuffs and dents, and the buttstock showing heavier wear suggestive of aggressive field use, with a split forming on the left side at the heel. The scope exterior shows mild wear and strong finish, with clear optics and a solid post reticle. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 5,500 - 8,500

LOT 1479
Exceptional Documented U.S. Springfield M1 Garand Type 2 National Match
Rifle with CMP Letter - Serial no. 5824622, 30-06 cal., 24 inch round bbl., parkerized finish, walnut stock.
Manufactured post-WWII, this rifle comes with a letter, data sheet and a copy of the Ordnance sales record. Per these docs, this rifle was sold out
of inventory from the Erie Ordnance Depot of Ohio at an uncertain date (the sales record says “1339”, the letter “December 5, 19?1”), with both the
letter and data sheet identifying the rifle as National Match, and the latter further specifying the Type 2 configuration. Among other features, the data sheet calls out the Springfield glass bedding, unitized handguard, and “NM” components, along with a muzzle gauge reading of 1.0 and throat erosion of 3.5 (note: we do not have gauges to verify these numbers). “NM/062” blade front and “NM” rear sight with rotating peep, “NM” wings and NM drums. The barrel is “NM” marked on the left with Springfield “8 54 MD42” marked chamber. The internal components are “SA” production, with glass bedding around the receiver and matching numbers applied to the stock channel and magazine floorplate. The high gloss stock has the aforementioned unitized handguard, with the “DoD Eagle” on the left side, circled serifed “P” on the wrist, and a checkered steel buttplate. A CMP branded plastic hard case is included.
CONDITION: Very fine as arsenal upgraded, with 95% of the attractive parkerized finish, showing some light edge wear and handling marks overall. The varnished glass bedded stock is very fine and shows some light dings and scratches, with a very nice appearance overall. Mechanically excellent.
Estimate: 2,750 - 4,250
