       LOT 1546
German MP-40 Submachine Gun, Class III/NFA
C&R Fully Transferable Machine Gun, with Extra
Magazines and Mag Pouch - Serial no. 3095p, 9 mm cal., 10 inch round
bbl., blue finish, metal stock. A refined and streamlined successor to the
MP-38, the MP-40 made extensive use of metal stampings and synthetic
materials to make a weapon robust enough to withstand the stress of war
while being simple enough to manufacture to keep up with the demand. Nearly
every armed branch and paramilitary organization in Germany made use of the
MP-40, and many also found their way into the hands of opposition forces such
as the French Resistance and Poland’s Home Army, making it one of the signature weapons of the war. The stamped receiver
of this one was manufactured by Merz Werke of Frankfurt (cos) in 1943, with the lower frame/trigger housing manufactured
by Erma Waffenwerke (ayf ) in the same year, and other parts from other sources. Blade front and two-leaf rear sight, with an alloy protective rib on the underside of the barrel, machined bolt with telescoping captive recoil spring assembly, a set of hard rubber grips and side panels on the trigger housing, and an underfolding stock. Included with the lot are six extra magazines and an unmarked, early war style, green leather three-cell magazine carrier with (empty) tool pouch.
CONDITION: Very good ,mixed serialized parts, with 70% of the dull arsenal style refinished blue finish, showing patches of rust, areas of mixed patina, and scattered wear and handling marks. The barrel rib has an oxidized appearance, some patches of “oil slick” color are visible on the receiver around the rear and the magazine well assembly, and the charging handle on the bolt
has been replaced. The bakelite panels show mild scuffing and scratching, and the stock hardware swivels and locks well. The magazines show a mixed texture and evidence of cleaned/finished-over pitting, and the pouch is very good with mild scuffing and verdigris buildup. Mechanically excellent. NOTE: This weapon is a National Firearms Act (NFA), fully transferable Class 3, which is registered with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, (BATFE) that is classified as a “Curios or Relic” as defined in 27 CFR, 478.11. These weapons are still subject to the provisions of 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44 and 27 CFR part 478. Estimate: 20,000 - 30,000
