 LOT 1108
Late 16th Century/ Early 17th Century European Suit of Armor - Most of the components of this suit of field armor appear to be circa late 16th century Italian with German/ French influences. The edges of the helmet and most of the armor components have rolled and slightly roped borders. The close helmet is nearly identical to two different examples referenced out of the Allen Antiques collection, viewable online, that are both mentioned as being 1580 dated Italian, and features a one-piece skull, pointed visor with eye slit divide at the center and pointed lifting peg on the right, upper and lower bevors both secured by hooks, and breath holes on the right of the upper bevor. Breastplate with central crease which droops to form a peascod at the waist, marked “G” on the lower right and “P” on the lower left, and large yellow letters “P. 4.” painted inside. Fingered gauntlets, bear-paw feet. Period replaced leather. Mounted on a stained wooden base. Stands 6 foot 3 inches tall with the base, and the suit with helmet mounted stand at just under 5 foot 6 inches tall from bottom of foot to top of helmet. CONDITION: The armor is good overall with scattered minor pitting, some cracks and some oxidation. The period replaced leather is also in good condition with some slight aging. This is an impressive suit of early armor that would make a fine addition to any arms and armor collection! Provenance: The George Moller Collection. Estimate: 10,000 - 20,000

  LOT 1109
Scarce Desirable Documented German-Dutch Wheellock Musket with Spanner - NSN, 69 cal., 48 inch
round bbl., bright finish, beech stock. This musket is pictured and discussed on pages 41-42 of “American Military Shoulder Arms, Volume I: Colonial and Revolutionary War Arms” by George D. Moller where it is noted as “very similar to arms made in Aix-La-Chapelle in the 1650s and known to have been sold to other German and Swiss states. Aix-La-Chapelle, or Aachen in German, is located in western Germany, contiguous to the borders of Holland and Belgium. Germany near present-day borders of Holland and Belgium.” Moller also notes that the only external mark with a “T” and an unclear stamp on the barrel at the breech, and an “HI” cartouche is marked on the underside of the barrel. “GDM” (George D. Moller)
collection initials are marked three times at the toe of the stock. The smoothbore barrel has a blade front sight, dovetailed notch rear sight, long sighting rib that runs from breech to muzzle, side ribs running for 14 inches forward from the breech, and the noted markings above. The flat lock has a rounded teat at the tail and no markings. The lock screws have stag-horn washers. The iron trigger guard has a scooped out section below the trigger, and the trigger plate also incorporates a safety at the rear. The full-length stock appears to be beech with a dark finish and has later sheet brass ramrods pipes, forend cap, and buttplate; a thumb rest groove on the right, nine notches below on the wrist, and an attractive “perch-belly” profile. An iron spanner is included. CONDITION: Fine with light gray patina and some speckled brown patina on the iron, minor pitting, age patina on the brass, and mild overall wear. The stock is good and has a coat of dark finish, several cracks and repairs, small chips absent, and general mild wear. Mechanically untested. Provenance: The George Moller Collection. Estimate: 6,500 - 11,000
