19th Century British/African Trade Barnett Marked
Iron Barrel Flintlock Blunderbuss/Swivel Gun - NSN,
1 inch cal., 24 7/8 inch round bbl., brown finish, walnut
stock. Flintlock blunderbuss for use on naval ships with a
swivel bracket. The lock is marked at the center with an Elephant cipher. London crown proofs marked at the left of the breech. “BARNETT/GUNMAKERS/LONDON” marked at the right rear of the buttstock in an oval. Bore measures at approximately 1 inch and the muzzle flares out to 2 3/4 inches.
CONDITION: Very good with dark brown patina overall with scattered light pitting, and sharp lock markings. Stock is also very good with defined edges, scattered light scratches and dents, a minor chip behind the barrel tang, and minor chips at the toe.
    Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 3,000 - 5,000
   British 2nd Pattern Brunswick Percussion Military Rifle with 1st Pattern Sword Bayonet - NSN, 70 cal., 30 inch round bbl., blue/ casehardened/bright finish, walnut stock. This rifle has the 2nd Pattern standard sidelock but has the 1st pattern bayonet lug and sword bayonet. It also has a “z/16” marked tompion, a blade front sight, standing notch rear sight with folding leaf, proofs and “1843 ENFIELD” at the breech, the Victorian cipher and “TOWER 1844” on the lock, chained nipple cover, “I.C.R.” followed by a “PIMLICO” round cartouche dated “1860” and a “2” on the right ahead of the patch box, additional faint markings on the left flat and behind the trigger guard, a leather sling, newer steel ramrod, and a ball
puller, jag, and pin inside the patch box. The bayonet has “ENFIELD 1848” among the markings on the blade and “E/63/RLR” on the hilt. CONDITION: Very good with 30% of the arsenal refinished blue on the barrel along with patches of mild oxidation/pitting and gray-brown patina, mottled dark gray patina on the lock, and aged patina on the brass. The stock is fine and has mild dings and scratches. Mechanically fine. The bayonet is also very good and has a mostly bright blade with mild pitting and nice aged patina on the brass hilt. Scarce British Enfield Pattern 1839 Percussion Musket with Bayonet -
NSN, 75 cal., 39 inch round bbl., blue/casehardened finish, walnut stock. The Pattern 1839 percussion musket is considered to be the first percussion infantry long arm to be issued on a large scale in British military service, with some of these known to have been imported for use by the Confederacy during the Civil War. Features a bayonet lug front sight, V notch rear sight, and the front end has a Lovell patent spring catch for retention of the bayonet. “crown/VR/ENFIELD” marked at the center of the lock and “1842” date marked ahead. Crown proofs marked at the breech, on the lock, and on the left stock flat. “I.C.R” marked behind a circled Enfield stamp on the right of the buttstock. “28/267” marked on
the buttplate tang. “GDM” (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes socket bayonet and leather sling. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 75% plus original blue finish on the barrel with smooth brown patina on the balance, some muzzle wear from bayonet mounting, a light patch of pitting on the middle of the barrel, casehardened lock turned to a smooth gray patina, and crisp markings overall in the metal. Brass fittings retain an attractive bright patina. Stock is also very fine with defined edges, numerous scattered light dents and scratches, and crisp markings. Mechanically excellent.
