Cased Pair of Engraved and Relief Carved Percussion Dueling Pistols -A) Dueling Pistol - NSN, 40 cal., 10 5/8 inch octagon bbl., blue/casehardened finish, relief carved ebony stock. These pistols reflect the popular style in France and Belgium during the mid- 19th century. No maker markings, both have an oval Liege proof on the left side of the barrel near the breech. Floral engraving is on the lock, barrel tang, trigger guard, and pommel cap; identical on both “A” and “B.” The ebony stocks have relief carved floral patterns. The case has purple lining, loading and cleaning rods, bullet mold, a worm, measure, oiler, nipple wrench, hammer, cap container, and container with two spare nipples and key.
CONDITION: Fine, retains half of the thinning original high polish blue finish with brown patina on the balance, and patches of light pitting at the muzzle end and at the breech. 60% casehardened finish with gray patina on the trigger guard tang. Crisp engraving throughout. Stock is very fine with minor scratches, and crisp relief carving. Mechanically excellent. The case is fine and has general age related wear.
B) Dueling Pistol - NSN, 40 cal., 10 5/8 inch octagon bbl., blue/ casehardened finish, ebony stock. Reference “A” description. CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% thinning original high polish blue finish with light brown patina on the balance, and a patch of light pitting at the left of the muzzle end. 50% casehardened finish with gray patina on the trigger guard tang. Crisp engraving throughout. Stock is very fine with minor scratches and crisp relief carving. Mechanically excellent.

LePage Freres Cased Pair of Engraved and Relief Carved Percussion Dueling Pistols -A) LePage Freres Dueling Pistol - Serial no. 5652931, 52 cal., 9 1/8 inch octagon bbl., brown/case colored finish, relief carved hardwood stock. The case for these pistols has “LEPAGE FRERES/PARIS/Ruc d’Enghien. 12.” inside
the lid. Brothers Henri and Perrin LePage were active in Liege c. 1823-1860. The rifled Damascus barrels have “ACIER” inlaid in gold on top, dovetailed blade front sights, “5652 931/931 and proofs on the left sides and bottoms. “5652/931” is repeated above the breech hook slots, and fixed notch rear sights are on the standing breeches. The breech plugs and upper tangs are marked with corresponding “1” and “2” on the pistols. Aside from the barrels, the metal components are engraved and primarily feature
scroll patterns. The dark colored hardwood stocks have relief carved floral patterns and ovals. The case contains a loading rod, cleaning rod, screwdriver/wrench, oiler, ball mold, small powder flask, mallet, few balls, and a key.
CONDITION: Good with much of the dull period refinished brown and case colored finishes, bright gold inlay, distinct Damascus patterns, mild pitting under the finish, and mild overall wear.
The stock is also good as refinished with distinct designs, cracks at the breech and wedge, and mild wear. Mechanically fine. The case and accessories are also good with mostly mild age and storage related wear and some loose pieces.
B) LePage Freres Dueling Pistol - Serial no. 5652931, 52 cal.,
9 1/8 inch octagon bbl., brown/case colored finish, relief carved hardwood stock. See “A.”
CONDITION: Good with distinct Damascus patterns, bright gold inlay, much of the dull period refinished brown and case colored finishes, mild pitting under the finish mainly on the pommel, and generally mild overall wear. The stock is also good as refinished with distinct designs, some scrapes and small dings, and light overall wear. Mechanically fine.
