Rare Documented Early Production U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1795 Type I Flintlock Musket Dated 1801 with Bayonet - Serial no. 382, 69 cal., 44 3/8 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. This is an extremely rare example of a second year production U.S. Harpers Ferry Model 1795 Type I musket. This model was the first to be produced at the newly established Virginia
arsenal and was utilized in the United States’ 19th century conflicts, including the War of 1812 and Civil War. Harpers Ferry Model 1795 flintlock muskets are described on pages
62-73 of George D. Moller’s book “American Military Shoulder Arms Volume II”, with this exact musket photographed on pages 65, 66, 67, and 69. The lock has the standard Harpers
Ferry markings including “HARPERS/FERRY/1801” at the rear, and “eagle/US” at the center. Marked with “eagle/P” and circled “US” proofs at the left of the breech. Serial “No382” is marked on the left of the barrel at the breech and on the buttplate tang.
Other features include a bayonet lug on the bottom of the barrel near the muzzle, brass
blade front sight on the rear strap of the front barrel band, sling swivels on the middle band and ahead of the trigger guard, and a trumpet head ramrod. Inverted “II W” and “JB” carved into the left of the buttstock. “GDM” (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes US socket bayonet, leather sling, and wood tampion.
CONDITION: Good with smooth gray/brown patina surfaces, scattered dark spots of surface corrosion, mild flash pitting, and mostly defined markings in the metal. Stock is also good with scattered scratches and dents, small chips at the rear of the lock, a chip at the rear of the side plate, and a crack visible on the right of the buttplate. Mechanically fine. Included bayonet is also good with scattered mild pitting. Provenance: The George Moller Collection. Estimate: 8,500 - 13,000

Incredibly Rare Documented 1813 Dated Experimental Prototype Pattern U.S. Springfield Model 1812 Flintlock Musket with Bayonet - NSN, 69 cal., 41 1/8 inch round bbl., bright finish, walnut stock. Springfield Model 1812 pattern muskets are described on pages 83-84 of George D.
Moller’s book “American Military Shoulder Arms Volume II”, with this exact musket photographed on page 83. The book states, “In 1813 Springfield Armory fabricated six pattern Model 1812 muskets... There are two known examples of the Springfield Armory Model 1812 pattern muskets fabricated in 1813 [Three, reference lot 1147] that contain the design features described in contemporary correspondence. One
is located in the Springfield Armory Museum [SPAR 5402], and the other is in a private collection [this example]. These muskets are similar to each other, and the design of their locks and barrels reflects the influence of the French Model 1777 musket. They also have a number of innovations that would be incorporated into the design and production of the Model 1812, Model 1816, and Model 1840 flintlock muskets, as well as the Model 1855 percussion rifle musket.” It has a bayonet stud on bottom near the muzzle, brass blade front sight on the rear strap of the front barrel band, rectangular barrel band studs, “1813” date and “SPRINGFIELD” marked in a vertical arch at the rear of the lock, “eagle/US” marked at the center of the lock, “US” and “P/eagle head/V” stamps on the barrel at the breech, script “D” inspection mark outside and hidden inside on various parts, and cheek cutout on the left side of the comb. “GDM” (George D. Moller) collection initials marked at the toe of the stock. Includes US socket bayonet, leather sling, and wood tampion. CONDITION: Good with brown patina overall and scattered light to mild pitting. Stock is also good as lightly sanded and re-oiled with some dents, chips, a crack ahead of the lock, and an absent section behind the flash pan. Mechanically fine.
