Exceptional Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Saddle Ring Carbine in Desirable .45-70 W.C.F. with Factory Letter - Serial no. 152675A, 45-70 WCF cal., 22 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. The factory letter lists this carbine in .45/70 with a shotgun butt and as received in the warehouse on August 3, 1915, and then
shipped to Abercrombie & Fitch in New York on August 17, 19015, in order 633085.
It has the standard two-line address and patent marking and caliber designation at
the breech, both on top of the barrel. There are Winchester oval proofs on the barrel and receiver at the breech, the barrel proof slightly offset to accommodate the caliber marking. The model designation and trademark are on the upper tang and the serial number is on the lower tang. It is fitted with pinned blade front and folding ladder rear sights, as well as a saddle ring mounted on the left of the receiver. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip stock with a checkered steel shotgun buttplate. CONDITION: Very fine, retains 80% plus of the original blue finish and 75% of the original case colors with the balance having thinned to mostly a smooth grey patina with a few scattered patches of very light surface pitting. The wood is very fine with a few scattered minor dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.
