Ornate and Elaborately Gold Ornamented German Bracket Clock - This mantle clock is housed in a hardwood cabinet with profuse gilt ornamentation. This gilt creates a magnificent contrast with the black varnish applied to the cabinet. The face of the clock as well as the two control indicators and decorative European scene are painted on porcelain disks. The movement of this clock includes a calendar with all the days marked on the clock face. The included 1978 dated appraisal lists this clock as being commissioned and manufactured circa 1690 with switchable repeat and strike functions. The appraisal letter goes on to state that it is likely this clock was originally commissioned/owned by German royalty. Includes winding keys and a key to the lock.
CONDITION: Fine overall, with age cracks visible in some of the cabinet joints, high edge wear to the gilt finish, clear glass, fading to the red fabric, and a small chip on the bottom right of the decorative panel. Mechanically untested.
