Factory Engraved Holland & Holland Royal Hammerless Double Barrel Paradox Gun - Serial no. 15450, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid
rib bbl., blue/bright finish, walnut stock. Blued steel barrels with beaded blade front and two folding leaf rear sights on the smooth
concave rib and raised matted quarter rib respectively. The barrels show light engraving at either breech, “HOLLAND & HOLLAND. 98. NEW BOND STREET. LONDON.” and “’PARADOX’ FOSBERY PATENT.” on the right and left respectively, London proofs and later 1999 dated
reproofs, and chambers proved at 2 1/2 inches with single extractor. The sidelock action displays beautiful full
coverage floral scroll engraving surrounding “HOLLAND & HOLLAND” banners on both lockplates and “THE ROYAL/ HAMMERLESS” on the underside. The gun features double triggers and tang mounted automatic safety switch with gold
“SAFE”. Highly figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with
engraved fittings including the Anson button release and straight
grip stock with tear drop flats, a four letter monogram consisting of
an A, K, I, and C in the silver inscription oval, and red rubber recoil
pad. Barrel and stock measurements (R/L): bore diameter nine
inches from the breech proved at 18.9/18.8 mm (.744/.740 inches) and
measured at .745/.741 inches; Paradox rifled muzzles; minimum wall thickness .025/.029 inches; 1 11/16 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 14 1/4 inch length of pull; weight 7 lbs 3 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine as professionally refurbished, retaining 99% blue finish, bright action with some spotting on the underside, a few pin prick pits on the left barrel, and light handling evidence. The wood has been sanded and is slightly undersized around the
locks and tangs, otherwise it is very fine with crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.

Rare Engraved Army & Navy 12 Bore “The Jungle Gun” Double Barrel Boxlock Ejector Ball & Shot Gun with Two Extra Sets of Shotgun Barrels - Serial no. 25848, 12 cal., 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/bright finish, walnut stock. With blued barrels each cut with very shallow rifling and respectively signed “ARMY & NAVY” and “C.S.L. LONDON” towards the breech end which is engraved with a band of stylized foliage. As a way of circumnavigating the Fosbery “Paradox”, “The Jungle Gun” has straight rifling with a slight twist beginning approximately three inches from the muzzle. Concave rib engraved “THE JUNGLE GUN” and rising to a ramp for the bead front sight, and with raised flat file cut matted quarter rib with extension and rear sight of two folding leaves each with platinum inlaid center line and calibrated for 50 and 100 yards. Border and scroll engraved treble grip action with blued removable firing pin bushings, signed “ARMY & NAVY C.S.L.” on each side and with blued floorplate, blued toplever engraved “PATENT” and automatic safety. Blued border and scroll engraved trigger guard. Very well figured semi-pistol grip stock with checkered heel, grip and forearm, the latter with Anson push button release. The underside of the barrels struck with London nitro and Birmingham nitro reproof marks. Includes two extra 29 5/8 inch, 12 bore barrel sets with blued barrels respectively signed “ARMY & NAVY” and “C.S.L. LONDON” towards the breech end which is engraved with a band of stylized foliage. Concave rib with bead sight and engraved with a spray of scrollwork at the breech end. The underside of the barrels are struck with Birmingham nitro and nitro reproof marks. Barrel measurements for the first extra set (R/L): chambers reproved at 70mm (2 3/4 inches); bore diameter nine inches from the breech reproved and measured at 18.8/18.7 (.740/.736 inches); choke constriction .010/.027 inches; minimum wall thickness .025/.028 inches. Barrel measurements for the second extra set (R/L): chambers reproved at 70mm (2 3/4 inches); bore diameter nine inches from the breech both reproved at 18.5 (.728 inches) and measured .730 inches; choke constriction .013/.042 inches; minimum wall thickness .034/.031 inches. Barrel and stock measurements for rifled set (R/L): chambers reproved at 70mm (2 3/4 inches); bore diameter 9 inches from the breech both reproved at 18.3 mm (.720 inches) and measured at .722/.724 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 1/4 inch drop at heel; 15 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs 15 oz. CONDITION: Fine. The barrels retain nearly all of the reblued finish with clear engraved details, file cut matting on the quarter rib softened, bores bright with evidence of slight surface marking. Action cleaned bright with occasional scattered minor surface corrosion spotting, engraving clear. Toplever, floorplate and trigger guard reblued, engraving on floorplate softened. Replacement stock with crisp carved drop points, forearm wood original, checkering crisp. The first extra barrel set retains nearly all of the reblued finish, bores polished bright, small pit to each tube, and right tube with small dent. The second extra set retains nearly all of the reblued finish, bores polished bright, and occasional scattered pits to each tube. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Malcolm King Collection.
