C2979 Colt Government Model Semi-
Automatic Pistol - Serial no. C2979,
45 ACP cal., 5 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips. Manufactured in 1913, the second year of production of the commercial Government Model. This pistol represented the
cutting edge of firearm technology and was highly sought after
by military personnel and civilians alike. This particular example exhibits the early production lustrous high polish blue finish and niter blue small parts and the “GOVERNMENT MODEL” marking on the front right of the frame which was only seen until approximately serial numbers C4500-C5000. The slide on this pistol bears the two- line, two-block address and patent markings on the left side with the

1913 Production Colt

45 ACP cal., 5 inch round bbl., blue
finish, walnut grips. Manufactured in 1913, the second year of production.
Fixed sights, with the two-line, two-block address and patent markings on the
left side of the slide with the Rampant Colt behind the serrations, and “COLT
AUTOMATIC/CALIBRE 45” ahead of the ejection port. Marked “GOVERNMENT
MODEL” ahead of the serial number on the right side of the frame, with the “VP” Verified Proof
and “2” inspection mark on the left side of the trigger guard. Outfitted with a round top rear sight,
wide knurled hammer, long trigger, short grip safety, and smooth flat mainspring housing. The replacement barrel is “J” inspected on left link ear. Checkered grips with diamond panels around
the screws, which have been stamped “JAM” on the left panels and “M” on the right panels, and the magazine is stamped “B” on the toe. Magazine is a military two tone replacement.
CONDITION: Fine, with 60% plus of the original high polish blue finish, showing a few areas of brown patina on the slide and grip straps, scattered spotting of varying depth and intensity, takedown lines on the slide and scattered handling marks. The grips are very good, with some dings and wear. Mechanically excellent.

World War II Era Colt
Government Model Semi-
Automatic Pistol with Swartz
Safety - Serial no. C200502, 45
ACP cal., 5 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips.
Manufactured in 1941, this is an exceptional example of a World War II-era
commercial Colt Government Model pistol. The left side of the slide has the
two-line address/patent dates and the right side has the caliber marking
followed by a Rampant Colt. The left of the trigger guard is marked “T/VP” and
the right is marked “60”. The right side of the frame has the Government Model marking over the
serial number. The barrel is marked “COLT 45 AUTO” on the bottom left with a polished chamber. It
has the “improved model” features including the short checkered trigger, wide checkered hammer, dished frame sides, and arched checkered mainspring housing with a lanyard loop. Fitted with a Swartz safety in original configuration, full checkered grips, and a correct full blue “COLT/45 AUTO” marked magazine.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 90% plus of the original blue finish with cold blue touch up visible on the right forward frame, some very light edge wear and a few scattered light handling marks. The grips are very fine with a few scattered minor blemishes in the overall crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Provenance: The Dr. Robert Azar Collection.

Pre-World War II Colt Super .38
Semi-Automatic Pistol - Serial
no. 7398, 38 super auto cal., 5 inch
round bbl., blue finish, walnut grips.
Manufactured in 1930, these Super
.38 pistols were first shown to the public at the August 1928 Camp Perry
National Matches, and were available for purchase by the start of 1929. The
left side of the matching number slide is marked with the two-line address
and patent dates while the right side bears the caliber marking along with
the Rampant Colt. The serial number is on the right of the frame, the left of the trigger guard
is marked “1” over “VP”, and the right of the trigger guard is marked “60”. Fitted with blade and notch rear sights, wide checkered hammer, long grip safety, arched checkered mainspring housing, checkered walnut grips, and a two-tone .38 Super Auto magazine.
CONDITION: Very fine, retains 75% plus of the original blue finish with the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina, primarily on edges and the grip straps. The oversize non-factory replacement grips are fine with a few scattered light handling marks and crisp checkering overall.
Mechanically excellent.

Rampant Colt behind the serrations. The right of the slide has the caliber markings. “VP” and “Q” are on the trigger guard. The early four-digit serial number is located on the right of the frame. The later production military replacement barrel is marked “P/H” on the chamber and “Y” on the bottom. Fitted with fixed blade and notch sights, a set of diamond pattern checkered grips, and an unmarked two-tone magazine.
CONDITION: Fine, retains 60% of the bright original high polish blue finish and 50% of the original niter blue with the balance having thinned to a smooth grey patina, primarily on edges and the grip straps. The grips are also fine with a few scattered dings, light handling marks, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent.

Pre-World War II Colt Vest Pocket Model 1908 Semi- Automatic Pistol with Pearl Grips and Original Box - Serial no. 93684, 25 ACP cal., 2 inch round bbl., nickel finish, pearl grips. Manufactured in 1913
with standard two-line address/ patent dates and Rampant Colt on the left of the slide, caliber marking on the right, serial number on the left of the frame, “VP” and “5” marked trigger guard, and standard features apart from the smooth pearl grips with Colt medallions. Includes the original Colt maroon box marked “PEARL NICKEL C1NP” on end label of lid. CONDITION: Excellent, retains 98% of the original nickel
finish with some light handling
marks scattered throughout
and a small patch of nickel flaked off the base of the magazine. The grips are also excellent with minimal handling evidence. Mechanically excellent. The box is fine with some mild wear. Provenance: The Doug Ellison Collection. Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500
