Desirable World War II Axis Power Rifles
   LOT 618
Very Scarce World War II Mauser Model 98 Low Turret Bolt Action Sniper Rifle with
Matching Scope - Serial no. 33790, 8 mm Mauser cal., 24 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. In use from
1939 through 1945, the “low turret” sniper was one of the most effective sniper weapons in the German arsenal; ways were found to
make less expensive snipers, but they never introduced a better model during the war. Blade front and tangent rear sights, with the scope mounts screwed and silver soldered
to the receiver. “Eagle/135” proofs are present on the barrel, receiver, and the rear scope block, with “Mod. 98” on the receiver wall and matching numbers on the bolt components, bolt catch, milled floorplate and milled barrel bands. The smooth pistol grip stock is stamped “WaA135” on the right side and fitted with a brown leather sling and a cupped steel buttplate. The front scope ring is numbered to match the rifle, “52124” is marked on the left side of the scope adjustment base and “AJACK 4x90” is marked on the right, with sight-through bases and a three-post reticle. CONDITION: Fine, with 95% refinished blue finish, showing some areas of brown patina, mild handling marks, and a few areas of covered dings. The refinished stock is in equal condition, with some minor dings and a nice grain pattern on the buttstock. The scope shows some minor external wear, with the optics clear and the reticle showing some fraying on the edges of the posts but otherwise fine. Mechanically excellent.
