    screw heads. The forend cap and takedown collar are also engraved. The finely checkered and engraved trapdoor buttplate contains a four piece cleaning rod with brush attachment and T-handle.
The left side of the barrel has the two-line Winchester legend, two-line nickel steel marking and “45-70.” A Winchester factory oval proof is stamped on top of the barrel and receiver at the breech. The upper
tang has the three-line Model 86/trade mark information. Fitted with a dovetail Lyman beaded blade front sight and an elevation adjustable rear sight. The multi-point checkered forearm and straight grip stock are select walnut. The buttstock has a right
handed cheek piece and “WCR” inscribed initial silver oval on the underside.
CONDITION: Very fine overall as professionally embellished, retaining 98% of the custom blue finish and a few minor handling marks on the wood with overall crisp checkering.

 The top of the barrel has the two-line address/patent dates marking ahead of the rear sight and “44 WCF” at the breech. The cartridge elevator is marked “44 CAL.” The upper tang is marked “MODEL 1873.” The lower tang has the serial number. This musket was part of a lot of over 700 Model 1873 Muskets in the 560,000-571,000 serial number range that were shipped to
Central America in September 1903. A number of these muskets were discovered in their original crates and were returned to the United States in un-fired condition in the 1950s. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 90% original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance and scattered spots of pitting on the receiver and tops of all barrel bands. 85% original niter blue
remains on the loading gate. The hammer retains 90% original case colors. The lever and buttplate retain 40% of the original case colors. The wood is fine with a filled repair at the rear barrel band
and dings and scratches. Mechanically excellent.

Special Order Winchester Deluxe Model 1894 Lightweight Takedown Lever Action Short Rifle - Serial no. 155076, 30 WCF cal., 22 inch part octagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1899. 22 inch barrels on Model 1894s are a very scarce special order feature even on the lightweight examples. The half octagon barrel, deluxe walnut and 3/4 magazine tube are also special order features. As Winchester expert and author George Madis noted, “Winchester with a number of special and deluxe features are becoming impossible to find” (see “The Winchester Book,” page 409). The rifle is fitted with a beaded blade Lyman front sight, three leaf rear sight and Lyman receiver peep sight. The barrel is marked with the two-line address legend ahead of the rear sight and “30 WCF” at the breech on the top flat and two-line nickel steel marking on the upper left flat. The upper tang has the three-line model/patent date marking. Mounted with a very finely figured, H-style checkered forearm and pistol grip stock. The buttstock is fitted with a Winchester hard rubber shotgun buttplate. CONDITION: Very good plus, retaining 30% plus original blue finish with a smooth brown-gray patina on the balance. The wood is very good with worn checkering and minor handling marks. Mechanically excellent. A Winchester Model 1894 rifle with many desirable special order features. Estimate: 3,000 - 4,500

LOT 33 Excellent Winchester Model 1873 Lever Action Musket - Serial no. 570123B, 44-40 WCF cal., 30 inch round bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1903. The musket has the distinctive 30 inch barrel with full- length forearm, three barrel bands, block front sight base that serves as a lug for a socket bayonet (bayonet not included), military style folding leaf rear sight and carbine buttplate. Sling swivels are mounted on the middle barrel band and the stock. The frame has the Third Model integral dust cover rail and dust cover
with serrated edges. The buttplate has a sliding brass trapdoor (cleaning rod not included). The barrel, magazine, barrel bands and frame
have the Winchester commercial blue finish. The hammer, loading lever and buttplate are color casehardened. The oil-finished stock and forearm are straight grain American walnut.
