Exceptionally Fine Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action .45-70 Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 17011, 45-70 cal., 26 inch round bbl., blue/ casehardened finish,
walnut stock. This
attractive Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle
in desirable .45-70 caliber was manufactured in 1888. The barrel is fitted with a dovetail blade front sight and an “1886” marked ladder rear sight graduated to 1,000 yards. The top of the barrel is stamped with the two-line New Haven
address ahead of the rear sight and “45-70” at the breech. The upper tang is marked “-MODEL 1886-.” The lower tang has the two-line patent dates marking and the serial number. Sling swivels are mounted on the underside of the forend cap
and buttstock. The straight grip stock is fitted with a crescent buttplate. The frame has the desirable casehardened finish. The forend cap, hammer, lever and buttplate are also casehardened. The barrel, full length magazine tube and bolt are blued. The loading gate is nitre blue.
Mounted with nicely figured plain walnut forearm and straight grip stock. The included factory letter confirms the round barel in .45-70 caliber and plain trigger
and states the rifle had its serial number applied on April 5, 1888, and was received in the warehouse on April 11, 1888, and shipped on October 17, 1888, in order 13950.
CONDITION: Exceptionally fine. The barrel and magazine tube retain 85a% plus original blue finish with thinning to brown on the balance. The bolt retains 95% original blue finish. 85% original nitre blue remains on the loading gate. The frame retains 80% original case colors. The remaining metal surfaces retain 60% original case colors. The wood is very fine with an applied coat of protective varnish, some minor dings and scratches overall. Mechanically excellent. A solid example of a casehardened frame Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle in desirable .45-70 caliber.

Excellent Special Order Winchester Model 1894 Lever Action Takedown Rifle with Factory Letter - Serial no. 280847, 30 WCF cal., ctagon bbl., blue finish, walnut stock. Manufactured in 1905 with standard markings including Winchester factory oval proofs on the barrel
and receiver at the breech. Fitted
with dovetailed German silver blade front and three-leaf rear sights, as well as
a special order double set trigger. Mounted with a smooth forearm and straight grip
stock with a crescent buttplate. The included factory letter lists the rifle in .30 caliber with an octagon barrel, set trigger, shotgun butt, and in takedown configuration when received at the warehouse on 14 January 1907 and shipped 24 January 1907 to order number 89388-B. The “shotgun butt” may have been listed in error as the wood and buttplate appear original. CONDITION: Excellent, retains 90% original blue finish, 85% vivid original case colors on the hammer and lever, and 90% original nitre blue on the loading gate with the balance a smooth grey patina and a few minor dings on the right of the receiver. The wood appears original and is very good with some light dings and scratches scattered throughout and a few scattered minor dings. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 14,000 - 22,500
