Attractive Relief Carved Native American Themed Antique Ivory Cane -
Starting in the 16th century, canes and walking sticks became extremely popular, first among royalty and nobility, and by the 19th and 20th centuries having worked their way down to the middle classes as a symbol of status. The grip of this cane features a beautifully relief carved bust of a Native American man, including the fringed collar of his clothing. Just below the grip is a German silver band between it and the varnished hardwood shaft which is tipped with horn. The overall length is 36 1/8 inches.
CONDITION: Very fine, the antique ivory showing an attractive lightly aged appearance with crisp carving, a few scattered minor dings on the shaft, and a couple chips of the horn tip absent.

Incredible Relief Carved Antique Ivory Bear and Snake Cane - Starting in the 16th century, canes and walking sticks became extremely popular, first among royalty and nobility, and by the 19th and 20th centuries having worked their way down to the middle classes as a symbol of status. This example shows some Germanic styling, with the antique ivory handle masterfully relief carved with a bear in a tree fighting a snake. The handle is joined to the shaft with a silver band showing an intricate weave pattern, and the shaft is made of a light springy wood with a coat of varnish and an antique ivory tip.
CONDITION: Very good, the handle showing an attractive slightly aged appearance with some scattered hairline cracks due to age, bright silver band, some scattered light handling marks on the shaft, and a few hairline age cracks in the tip. Estimate: 1,600 - 2,500

Desirable Relief Carved Otto von Bismarck Bust Antique Ivory Cane - This cane was likely made in the late 1890s or early 1900s, most likely in Germany, as it features a relief carved bust of Otto von Bismarck (1815-1898), the powerful leader behind the unification of the German Empire. The antique ivory handle is “L” shaped, with the bust of Bismarck on the vertical portion carved in high relief. Directly below the handle is an floral engraved gilded band with the initials “JMO” engraved in script. The shaft is made of a light springy wood and tipped with dark horn.
CONDITION: Very good overall, the handle showing an attractive lightly aged appearance with some scattered hairline age cracks, some scattered light chipping of the enamel and light handling marks on the shaft, and a couple minor hairline cracks and chips in the horn tip.
