Gold Inlaid German Percussion Target Rifle by F. Schrage in Coblenz - NSN, 36 cal., 31 1/4 inch octagon bbl., brown/bright/gold finish, walnut stock. Manufactured circa 1850. With browned octagonal barrel signed “F. SCHRAGE IN COBLENZ” towards the breech and fitted with a dovetailed tunnel bead front sight. Bright patent breech and false breech with long tang fitted with an aperture target rear sight. Floating island side lock signed “F. SCHRAGE IN COBLENZ”, with stepped tail and scroll engraved dolphin hammer with gold inlaid eyes. Bright trigger plate with long shaped finial and fitted with double set triggers, bright trigger guard shaped
to the fingers, and hooked buttplate. Figured walnut half stock with raised cheek piece, checkered grip and Schnabel forearm tip. The underside of the butt and rear ramrod pipe fitted with sling mounts, and original iron ramrod. CONDITION: Very good. The barrel retains most of the rebrowned finish with clear signature. The remaining iron parts are bright with some age related discoloration and minor surface spotting. Stock is smooth following a refinish and has a professionally repaired crack at the wrist. Austrian Werndl Action Single Shot Sporting Rifle - NSN, 11 mm CF cal., 22 7/8 inch octagon bbl., blue/ casehardened finish, walnut stock. This sporting rifle, built on an Austrian Werndl breech system, was made by Joseph Heinige of Vienna, Austria, who was an active gunmaker circa 1870-1880. Features a blued octagonal barrel retained by a single wedge, floral designs behind “JOS. HEINIGE IN WIEN” etched on the top flat of the barrel behind the rear sight, a sliding detachable blade front sight ahead of a fixed post front sight surrounded by a semi-circular hood, and a tangent leaf rear sight. Casehardened frame, breech block, hammer, lock plate, trigger guard, and buttplate. Checkered Mannlicher style stock with raised cheek piece, horn tip on the forend, sling swivels mounted on the forend and bottom of the buttstock, and fitted with an iron ramrod. CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 90% period refinished blue finish on the barrel with some light flaking on the refinished rear sight, and 90% vivid refinished case colors with scattered light freckling overall. Stock is fine as re-oiled with a few light scratches, and crisp checkering. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 1,800 - 2,750
LOT 1408 Engraved and Gold Inlaid H. Siebold Martini Style Schuetzen Rifle - Serial no. 890, 9.5x47 R cal., 30 1/4 inch octagon bbl., blue/ gold/casehardened finish, walnut stock. The barrel has lightly scalloped gold bands at the muzzle and breech, a windage adjustable semi-
globe front sight, adjustable notch rear sight, “H. SIEBOLD IN KOSEN” inlaid in gold on top at the breech, and “HEINR SIEBOLD/KOSEN” along with proofs and “890” on the bottom. “890” is also repeated on the face of the frame, and “1890” is marked on the buttplate. The top of the frame and right side of the barrel are both marked “PATENT.” The other components have classic Germanic leafy scroll engraving. The upper tang has an adjustable peep sight, and the rifle has adjustable double set triggers. The half-length stock has a checkered wrist, high comb, low cheek rest, and an added 1 1/2 inch extension. The
caliber was previously identified as 9.5x47R but is not marked. CONDITION: Very good with 25% original blue finish in the protected areas, the blue faded to mostly
smooth brown along the visible portions of the barrel, light age on the gold inlay, gray and brown patina on most of the other components, some patches of bright original case colors, crisp engraving, some light oxidation/pitting, and general mild overall wear. The rear sight is cracked The refinished and lengthened stock is very good and has crisp checkering, light marks and scratches, and minor overall wear. Mechanically fine. LOT 1409 Engraved and Gold Inlaid Renkin Brothers 10 Gauge Side by Side Percussion Shotgun - NSN, 10 gauge, 31 1/2 inch solid rib bbl., bright/gold finish, walnut stock. Features gold inlaid markings and animals, scroll engraving, a bead front sight, checkered wrist, and figured stock. CONDITION: Good overall with bright gold inlays showing mild wear, mostly gray patina on the balance, some minor pitting, and a refinished stock with brass repairs in the wrist, a few cracks, repaired toe, and some nice figure on the butt. Mechanically fine. Estimate: 900 - 1,400
