  18623, 12 gauge, 28 inch solid rib bbl., blue/ casehardened finish, walnut stock. Manufactured between 1937 and 1941 per page 128 of Nigel Brown’s “British Gunmakers: Volume One - London”. Blued Westley Richards Special Steel barrels with single steel bead sight on the matted, concave solid rib which is marked “WESTLEY RICHARDS. 23. CONDUIT ST. LONDON GUN MAKERS BY APPOINTMENT TO HIS MAJESTY GEORGE V.”, Birmingham proofs and reproofs, choke constrictions measured .005/.009 inches, and chambers
reproved at 2 3/4 inches with automatic ejectors. The casehardened famous Westley Richards droplock action displays near full coverage floral scroll engraving with “WESTLEY RICHARDS” banners on either side. The gun features a single selective trigger with gold inlaid “L” and “R” and a tang mounted automatic safety with gold inlaid “SAFE”. Beautifully figured, multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved
fittings, Deeley latch release, and horn tip inlay and straight grip stock with blank inscription oval and checkered hard rubber buttplate. Includes a leather bound takedown case marked “J.P.P.” on the lid. Stock measurements: 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 2 inch drop at heel; 14 3/4 inch length of pull; cast-off; weight 6 lbs. 3 oz.
CONDITION: Very fine, retaining 98% professionally reapplied blue finish, trace of original case colors in the protected areas with a silver patina on the balance of the action, some discoloration to the action, and light handling evidence. The wood is also very fine with scattered minor marks and sharp checkering. The case is very good with moderate storage wear. Mechanically excellent. Estimate: 2,500 - 4,000

with matching designs on the
trigger guard and tangs. Gold inlaid “LAD” monogram on the trigger guard. Double triggers and an automatic tang mounted safety with gold inlaid “S”. Lightly figured,
multi-point checkered splinter forend with engraved fittings including the Deeley latch release and pistol grip stock with cheekpiece and leather wrapped recoil pad. Includes a leather takedown case and an extra matching numbered set of barrels
measuring 30 1/2 inches with 2 3/4 inch chambers and matching markings. Barrel measurements for extra set (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech both measured at .721 inches; choke constriction .018/.036 inches; minimum wall thickness .030/.027 inches. Barrel and stock measurements for primary set (R/L): bore diameter nine inches from the breech .721/.722
inches; choke constriction .003/.037 inches; minimum wall thickness .029/.028 inches; 1 1/2 inch drop at comb; 3 inch drop at heel; 15 1/8 inch length of pull; weight 6 lbs. 11 oz. CONDITION: Excellent, retaining 98% original blue and coin finishes, areas of light staining on the action, and minor handling evidence. The stock is very fine with scattered light dings and scratches and crisp checkering. The case is very good with a broken strap. The extra barrels are excellent. Mechanically excellent. Blued steel barrels with single brass bead sight on the smooth, concave solid rib which is marked “EDWINSON GREEN & SONS. CHELTENHAM & GLOUCESTER” along with a gold “2”, Birmingham proofs, choke constrictions of .012/.033 inches, and 70 mm (2 3/4 inch) chambers with automatic ejectors. The bright finished assisted- opening sidelock action displays beautiful floral scroll engraving and another gold “2” on the top lever.
